e89 coupe - old renders vs the Zagato

I've just stumbled upon an old article with some speculative renders of a possible E89.

An artist's impression or not, it could've been a looker.

I even prefer it to the Zagato effort - it manages to reconcile the best of the E86 and the E89 while still looking like a bimmer.

And the Italian rendition:

I love the first render, there is another front angle render here http://www.bmwblog.com/2011/05/26/would-you-buy-a-z4-coupe/

The second one I don't like so much, and the Zagato I hate :o

A few years back I was wondering if BMW would build a coupe, still very surprised that they never TBH, just needed a fixed roof on the E89, a much easier prospect than on the E85.

I think they didn't make a Coupe version because they've lost money on the Roadster and so would have no prospect of breaking even on a small, limited edition version. The same reason no ///M has appeared as well I suppose.

I seriously think that this could be the last Z4 we will see from BMW.

Good news for ///M owners though?

I like the coupé renders....but then I like the Zagato also....I'll get my coat

E89 Coupe looks great. Not sold on the Zagato, it looks nice, but doesn't look like a BM IMO....

That's probably a good thing, most bmw.s are ugly things lol

Yeah I was thinking more a bit like Mercedes when they did the Black Series SLK - the roof profile was the same, they just made it fixed and I think it was carbon fibre.

The E89 would be easy to do the same, it would be more of a 2 door coupe a la Manta GTE rather than a hatchback like it the E86.

I suppose one could just buy an E89 and keep the roof up :bag:
