E89 boot

Hi all

I have a question regarding the boot space in my E89 - I am curious as to how many 'revisions' there are to the space. I've seen photos of a ski-hatch (I guess an option) but also some straps and/or velcro on the carpet. Mine is as below (note the First Aid kit too - is that an option too?). I am just curious as to how/why the differences :)

Plus - I am still trying to find one of the black plastic 'roof cover' hinges for in the boot as one of mine is completely missing. Failing that I am looking at coming up with a neat alternative or perhaps 3D printing one based on the one I have!

Cheers

Mine is the same as yours.. no first aid kit though. Ski hatch was indeed an option. Some people have retrofitted them and like it but for me not worth the effort. The hinges break and you cant buy them from BMW without the shelf. if you have a printer that's a good idea alternatively you can get the shelf and bits on Ebay but usually a bit expensive.. most people fix them when they break which is a common failure. Good advice on here how to do it

Quite expensive if you just need the hinge! But you also get the net! :D

Ours has a hatch that opens in the cabin and has shelves in it and the panel at the rear of the cubby can be removed from inside the boot where your first aid kit is giving a through load area.
There are velcro straps on either side of the panel in the boot at floor level and there are 2 straps on the boot floor, although one of ours was missing from purchase.
Im assuming from inside the cabin there is no hatch in the bulkhead between the seats on your car.

Here’s mine, I have the first aid kit in the compartment on the left hand side of the boot, the middle bit on mine can open through or the door inside the car leads to 4 shelves.

The black plastic hinges are broken on mine, the previous owner said his indie recommended just using cables ties so he went with the suggestion and said it had been fine ever since. I haven't had any issues either in the last few months of ownership, but I don't really use the boot and just leave the cover in the down position.

The Ski-Hatch and/or Shelves are an option (as stated above) but can also come as part of the extra storage option pack (nets for the boot and passenger transmission tunnel, straps in the boot, hatch/pass through, extra storage cubby above drivers knee etc)

I never knew there was a “extra storage option pack” - it seems everything is an option with BMW (like the “smokers pack” I have! 🤣)

I didn't realise mine had the "Storage Pack". I assumes they all had those things. It's not like they actually add much storage or that there would be any other use for those spaces. And personally I'd rather have the full storage space than the cup-holders I have in mine as that is a space I really do miss having.

The tray with the cupholders can be swapped for a full size tray without the cupholders.
Check realoem.com for part numbers and order from your dealer.
I think the part number for the tray is 51169181229
And the part number for the rubber mat in the tray is 51169174845
But check realoem yourself to be sure, its in the vehicle trim section.

I was asking just the other day about the boot space. I find it a nuisance that when the roof is down and you need something in the boot you cant get proper access unless the roof is put back up. I am told that BMW has another option pack that can be key operated and it lifts the whole roof system up to give access without having to close the roof and open it again! I am told that's called a Comfort Pack!!
Does your car this option?

It’s called convenient loading, I have it but I always forget how do it tbh so just end up closing the roof anyway!

The various panels could be found on eBay (and I have found them recently) and could easily be fitted, but the prices breakers charge for them really makes it utter pointless and a waste of good money for very little gain, unless you're thinking of going skiing or play golf.
