Morning all :D

I've finally got around to editing the video I filmed earlier in the summer when I cleaned the air-con system.
Very easy job to do and cheap enough (cost me £30 for everything), I was very impressed with the K2 products, so much so that I bought them for my wife's Ford Kuga as well.

Excellent video Dave, will certainly be doing that to both cars when I have the chance

You will need to let us know how it is after a few weeks.
Particularly when switching the aircon on and off, has the slight unpleasant smell disappeared?
I used one of the spray canister ones a few months ago, without putting anything in the vents and it lasted a few weeks but when switching the aircon on and off there was still a slight smell although it was better.

I was told by a service agent, for another make, that the smell was from bacteria in the evaporator caused by running the car with the air con off creating ideal conditions for the stuff to breed and multiply.

Can't verify it personally.

I did this way back in the early summer just after I'd fixed my non-working air-con compressor. First switched it on and it didn't smell right so decided to do a full system clean. I found this kit on another YouTube channel showing how it worked (I'd previously done just the spray can mist into the interior on another car) so gave it a try. It's been in there all summer now and still smells absolutely fine, so it's a winner with the foam spray inside the vents.

I'd say that's about right, mine's nice and fresh now 8) :driving:

Thanks very much for a very informative video. Where does all the foam go, does it just evaporate?
Thank you. Yes it dissipates over the 15 minutes waiting time.

Good video thanks. That old pollen filter was certainly doing it's job. :o
Yes a lot of leaf material fell out, the actual shot in the video was the second time I took it out, there was more initially! :D

Thank you. I think some people just don't think it's a DIY job, hence why I made the video.

With nowhere to go and not much else to do I decided to have a go at this yesterday on my now 5 and a bit year old 35i (15,200 miles).

I followed Dave's video exactly, used the same cleaner and got a great result. For anyone else having a go I have a few observations.

1. Removing the lower panel was a right bugg*r. The 3 screws came out easily but the panel itself still seemed to be held in place. It's not, you just have to keep harassing it until it comes free.

2. The pollen filter and retaining clip came out easily. Getting the clip to lock the new filter back in is frustrating - you're working blind and it's not overly positive so you wiggle it to see if it's locked, and it comes undone - Doh!

Unless you're pretty sure your pollen filter needs changing I'd consider this bit as optional. Unlike the filter in the video the one that came out was as clean and fresh as the new one that went back in. My car doesn't do many miles (even less at the moment!) and the filter won't be getting blocked just sitting in the garage. It had probably been changed at the last service - I should have looked at the invoice.

The "sweaty sock" smell has now gone from the interior, replaced by something resembling freshly laundered sheets. The air bomb said "Lemon Scented", but it was unlike any lemon I've ever come across.

So top marks for a well made video.
