E89 35is - BOUGHT ONE! :D

A* to you Timmy

Yip, he’s to go to the top of the class, well for today anyway :poke:

On a more serious note on the detailed information provided it has neither the additional speakers behind the seat nor the central one so it looks like it is the base 6 speaker system which as I said I had in my 23i and was very disappointed with the sound quality and mine had additional tweeters in the door pillar so was effectively an 8 but I don’t think they made much difference and it was still poor IMO

Andy... I'll have you know, I upgraded it to 8 speaker with the door tweeters before you owned it! :poke: you must have had the base up too much

Rob, you’re 100% correct, there’s absolutely no doubt I had the base turned up too much so even with your very professional upgrade it was still rubbish :poke:

Hi All,

Good news, I've bought a 35is! I have probably spent more than I should have but life's short and I wanted it

Are we ok with the spec, I like it so that's the most important thing but would be happy to hear some of your opinions

2016 35is
20k miles
iDrive
Heated seats
Not sure if it's got the upgraded speaker system yet, but I don't mind if it doesn't (it did, it had 677)
[edit] to list the non standard options from an 35is, 609 nav system with 620 voice control which was £325 option! ouch why would you?, 677 speaker upgrade, comfort pack which included parking sensors(PDC), cruise control, electric folding mirrors, 19" M double spoke 326 alloys £5900 of non standard options for the 35is which makes me feel a bit happier about the price i've paid

Thanks very much guys! mega excited, I am an idiot though because only just sold my Ftype and was suppose to be saving  ... honestly I've made 3 phone calls this week and all 3 cars had already sold. I think the advert went up in the afternoon/eve, I rang at about 8:30 and he reckoned he had had 6 phone calls and 2 visits booked in already. A classic sales technique but from what I've found recently whilst looking to purchase I would not be surprised if he had had phone calls already. This seem like the right car to be in and I loved the Z4 I had back in 2014

Looks a great car, great spec / low mileage, don't worry about the cost just enjoy it

Looks great, lovely colour and low miles. I hope you enjoy many miles in it :driving:

Saving can be done at any time

Looks like a lovely car. Finding them like that isn’t easy. When you do you just have to bite the bullet. I love mine and it makes me feel good every time I drive it.

Super looking car.
Mines just the 35i but has adaptive M sport suspension- standard on 35iS i believe. May be worth checking that variable damping control is fully working. Have printout of all work done on mine and the control unit failed at 16k miles -and 3.5 years old. Suspect a big bill (covered by insured warranty) followed by both front dampers leaking at 8yrs old 51k miles -again done under insured warranty.

Car's under 60k miles insured warranty costs about £41/ month, may be worth considering - could be that quality of variable damping and control have improved on later models but they can throw up some big bills.

Enjoy car and get it entered in photo competition

Just caught up on this thread. Congrats on the purchase. That looks like a lovely example and if you like it, that’s all that matters. I like the colour combo. Let us know your first thoughts when you’ve driven it a little way. :driving:

I am genuinely interested to know what the forum thinks the price should have been

Doesn't really matter. You bought it, so you're happy. The seller sold it, so he's happy. It's a pricey car anyway, as it's a rare breed, with low mileage, and being a 2016 is the last year you can find. I think it's possibly the 2nd most expensive one I've seen for sale recently.

If the seller was confident (bullsh*t or otherwise) he had a queue of people waiting, then he won't have been wanting to move much - so I'd be guessing somewhere in the £24k to £25k range.

As per previous comments - spring well and truly here, many months of sunny motoring ahead of you in an amazing looking car - enjoy! :driving:

(and take care of it to protect your investment :))

As long as your happy with the car for the price paid that is all that matters.

Enjoy!

Hi All,

Thank you for all of your comments, I will be collecting the car on Saturday and carrying out some checks. I was thinking I may as well share my purchasing story in case it comes in handy to any future readers like I was a couple of weeks ago.
  • The car is being purchased from a private seller.
  • So far I have carried out an HPI check here https://hpicheck.com/ costing £20.
  • I have also asked for the VIN number of the car and found the full options ticked on the car from this website: http://bimmer.work/
  • I have asked for the sellers personal Phone number (not the one on auto trader) And their address.
  • Having some of their personal info I have then sent over a £500 deposit
  • I have looked up and got the instant online quote for BMW Warranty here: https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Start
  • Ahead of my collection visit I have considered paying for an on site inspection here:https://www.clickmechanic.com/bookings/car?type=inspection then decided I would just go through the list of what they inspect myself, probably just the ones I am fussed about checking
Ahead of collection day I have sent over a list of key information I'd like to know more information about, I shouldn't have offered on the car before asking these but I got carried away as I didn't want to miss out on the sale (apparently the seller had had 7 phone calls by the following morning they listed it, believe it or not who knows, I phoned the evening it went up and they had 2 viewings booked so I jumped the queue and did a deal) In hindsight taking a breath OR following my list below might help but I had missed out on a few cars already so heart went before head.

Largely to the thanks of @Argyll_Andy who has helped me massively in PM's I have also sent over the email to the seller ahead of collection to answer and make the collection day easier

I will be following a little guide for buying privately, most of which I think we could basically do ahead of time which would be greatly appreciated and add some peace of mind. Things I am wondering and would greatly appreciate if you wouldn't mind letting me know are:

-Alloy cracks, can you have a look inside best that you can and see if any have cracks, the 19" 326 alloys are lovely but they are prone to cracking I am told by some other owners.

-Have the tyres ever been replaced or are they the same ones from new? if they have been replaced do you know roughly what milage the car was on and was it the full set changed or just particular ones? If you could send a picture of the front and rear tyre so I can see all of the information brand etc that would help

-Has the battery ever been replaced? there should be a date on the negative terminal of the battery, would you mind checking what that date is please

-How many keys do you have?

-Is there a tracker fitted? if yes is there a fob I would need for it?

-Please can you send me a photo of the service record so that I can check that out
-Do you know if any, what works have been carried out on the car, ie the adaptive M suspension can sometimes go on them. injector replacements?

-Are there any items you know of worth mentioning, scratches, dents, works the car maybe needs, lights on the dash.

-Have you carried out any works to the car yourself, if yes what were they?

-Is the car currently under any Warranty that you know of?

If anybody has anything below that they would add to the list, feel free to add them.

Hope this helps,

Many thanks,
Matt

I was in two minds whether to reply or not :D

It's a perfectly sensible list Matt, but as you've identified these are mostly questions you ask BEFORE agreeing to the sale and hence the price - is your deposit dependent on any further checks when you get there (outside the obvious "is it as described" type stuff)?

(just being silly, but if you find cracked alloys, low tyre tread, original battery, 1 key etc. - not that you should - what is your position then?)

 Knowing the conversations I have had with the seller I'm not worried about the £500 basically. He's also let me know that it's no problem if I don't want it as he has 2 people who have asked to be on the list, I am paying him a reasonable price so I'm sure he's happy to give me space. If it ends up needing £2000 of works then of course I would be walking away if there was no movement

Other than that I have every intention of upholding my agreement with the chap
