E89 35i - Retrofit the 2012 paddles to non M sport wheel?

Hi,

I've been doing a fair bit of searching but am still unsure (que someone pasting the link I need immediately)...........

As per the title really, wondering on a 2009 DCT 35i whether you can just buy the newer style paddles and retrofit them to the standard wheel?

Or - failing that, can you fit the new 2012 wheel to the 2009 car?

This post makes me think it can be done although he said it was a 2010

Buy and fit these or get from dealer http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/32306799619/ES2537238/

The new wheel reminds me of my old Z4M wheel mmmmmmmmm kitkat chunky.......

I'm sure others have done this so yes you can retrofit the paddles or fit a whole new wheel and paddles.

Definate YES.

I did it soon after getting my 2010 35is - easy swap (plug & play) that takes about half an hour from start to finish. No wiring chops / the new paddles just swap over once you remove the wheel & airbag.

Only the paddles are required, cost about £250 (from memory).

They transform the paddle action, with the old ones I never used them as they just did not feel right - the new ones are a huge improvement & make paddle mode 'fun'.

Exactly - the older system has both +/- gear changes on each side in a push/pull arrangement for the paddles. You have a pull action, and also a push action with your thumbs... a bit confusing at least for me.

On the new system, left paddle - / right paddle + (only). Just pull action, bigger paddle, less 'clicky' - just a lot nicer to use.

BMW changed over to using the newer style paddles sometime around 2011, but you can just swap them out if you have an older car (straight swap).

MIne is an 35is - so yeh I think it has the M sport wheel as standard.

But the shifters are the same on a 35i DCT car - hence the paddles are the same regardless.

Sounds good Matt.

Just agreed to buy a 35i pretty much based on the fact I can fit the paddles, my first non Manual sports car :O

Now to locate an M sport bumper & a JB3...... lalala.......

So I'll come back and do some pics on this!

Where did you get your paddles?

Cotswold BMW in Hereford - part number is 32306799619 - cost me £276 inc VAT & delivery (just looked it up).

Any main dealer can get you the paddles (just give them the part number) but the one from here is meant to be a bit cheaper.

Guess I can pick up the car and live with it a weekend before ordering the upgrades eh ;)

I'll have a ganders at RealOEM and give a stealer a call :)

Fun times ahead........

Small segway. Do they make the paddles in different sizes (or do they adjust).? I love the new configuration, but still would prefer the paddles a fraction bigger.
