Good afternoon everybody I wonder if you can help me I have a oil leak on my oil filter housing running down the front of the block and contaminating the belt and alternator what kind of money is it to have it done in a BMW garage verse an independent.
Cheers

Only new gaskets are required.

No. 04 + 05 on the following diagramm:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/en/showparts?id=LM72-EUR-01-2014-E89-BMW-Z4_35i&diagId=11_3971

Should be replaced in less than an hour.

If the belt is contaminated its suggested (by BMW and others) to be replaced..given age and mileage of most Z4s not a bad idea anyway.

Yes good idea I was quoted £130 to replace the serpentine belt.
Not cheap these cars

Sadly nothing is cheap on these babies..a period of time with AM or Porkster ownership would make you wish for an E89!

I'd disagree with them being expensive to maintain. Parts are reasonable, it's just the labour cost of garages. But all decent garages charge £80/hr+ for labour, doesn't matter if they are working on a £20k Golf or a £40k 3 series.

A belt change is a bit of a pain because you need to remove the fan and the fan requires you to remove the undertray. The belt itself is only £20 but it'll take 1.5hrs to change just because it's hard to reach but that's pretty normal on most cars as it's not something you change often.

Overall the 35i is pretty easy to work on even with the big engine, you can replace the coils and spark plugs in about 20minutes and oil changes are simple. Even bulbs are easy to get to which is something that requires a bumper removal on some more mainstream cars.
