E89 30i vs 20i (Remapped) comparison

Both great versions of the Z4. Both excellent handling. Both have excellent performance. Both are exciting to drive. If you get the opportunity to try both back to back I urge you to. Its amazing how different they feel.....and not in a bad way at all.
I've only driven the 30i and 35i E89's.
The 30i was comfortable, powerful enough and seemed a bit more 'predictable'(?) as far as handling goes. Bear in mind I only drove it for about half an hour or so, so not an expert opinion by any stretch.
The 35i feels more like it just wants to turn around a bite you if you let it off the leash a bit. You kind of drive it with the thought in the back of your mind that there is more power here than you really need. Having said that, can't wait to get the MHD flash for more power...

I drive a remapped 30i sitting at 276BHP
Hi I have non remapped 3.0i S drive at the standard 258 BHP is the extra 18BHP noticable is it worth remapping ? do you get anything else from the re mapp. Interested to hear your views As I have been considering the re-mapp route

That’s only the claimed increase, as far as I’m aware the cars not been tested before/after to verify this? :?

Baza - have a read from my posts earlier in the forum with regards to the other benefits of optimisation.

Rob - That wasn't what Baza was asking. I agree it is only a claimed increase. Doesn't mean it needs to be preached at your every opportunity. What Baza is asking, just like the others, is if it makes a noticeable difference over and above a very small power gain.

Can we get over the fact that it's a claimed minimal increase and concentrate on the benefits of remapping over and above power.

Cant say about numbers, but for me it was worth. You just need to know what you can get and what you cant. I had remus backbox and tune installed same time and it really improved car. Most, if not all gain is in upper, lets say 5-7k rpm. If you dont care about higher rpm or drive hard you dont get much. If you just want more torque you dont get much at all. Car revs happier and pulls better on high rpm.

500€ isnt that much anyway. If it would been 18hp bmw option, every one of these cars would have it as original factory option. Still very cheap horses. We are just spoiled with turbo car tunes where many models are made with same internals and different tune. Of course there are huge potential on 20i turbo when 28i is same engine. There aint that big gain on 28i anymore. Some ofcourse, but not huge. like my old transit custom went from 125hp to 181hp. Gain was huge. New 170hp transit got 196hp, and gain isnt that great anymore, maybe because of auto transmission. At but dyno 30i tune was maybe better improvement than that transit tune.

Struggling to see any real benefits on the 3.0 N 52 it seems to have advantages for the 2.0 and 2.8 four pot,but very little real gain on the 3.0. So for now Ill stick where I am

No one’s preaching here, I’m just trying to be factual where numbers are quoted
