E89 3.0

Mid to end 2011. The n20 engine replaced it. Yes BMW did this purely due to economic and environmental requirements.

Thanks for that info. I don't think it would have influenced my decision to buy as I like a big six and finances wouldn't stretch to the 35i of a similar age and spec.

I'm sure it will be plenty quick enough for a codger! :driving:

I love my 3.0 e89, it really is a peach

The cash is in the bank and my insurance and retention certificates are on their way to the dealer so its Thursday next week I think.
I enjoyed my E85 so its highly unlikely the E89 is going to be worse is it?

The e89 is definitely not worse. The e89 isn't as raw as the e85, so if you're after chuck-ability, the e85 is still your best bet. But as an overall good car the e89 is much better. Better security, ride is much much improved, better tech, thats leaving aside styling which I believe is also improved IMHO. You'll not regret the e89, its a grown up e85.

The wait is killing me!!!
We are to take the car to Europe on the 13th Aug so its going to be a steep learning curve with the idrive/sat nav and the like - I might have to read the manual if all else fails! :D

How long before things become natural I wonder?

Ultimately, its just a car, there's no steep learning curve. Learn the gadget features at your own pace. You'll be surprised what you learn by just having a go.

There isn't that much difference in the things that it does, just a natural evolution of the E85. The long bonnet is as before, its just roomier and quieter.

I downloaded the E89 manual whilst living in Australia, six months before I returned home and bought an E89 3.0 M sport auto. - great way to 'keep you going'

That's a crackin' good idea! I'm going cold turkey waiting!!!

You dont happen to have the link please - or a point in the right direction!

A good read will no doubt help me over the next few days.

I have the 2009 US e-manual in PDF, PM me your email and I'll send you a copy.

Thanks chaps, pm sent to you both.

Much appreciated help!

I'm off to put the laptop onto charge - its going to be a long night !

It arrived yesterday and it coincided with the sunshine up here. The fella arrive soon after 08.00 - I was expecting it about 12.00 - It caught me on the hop - Well having some extra kip really!

First impressions - Love it! The ride is much less hard core and that's with 19's - No evidence of the dreaded tram line problem and as many have said - still a z4 feel but a little more mature. 6 speed auto and gear changes in Normal are plenty quick enough.

It seems to have all the toys I need and the only button missing is the boot opener on the A post. That's an observation as opposed to a problem. Where are you supposed to bung the first aid kit? The under seat boxes are also a bit of a miss - again its not a show stopper! I did spend some time looking for the 'tween headrest draught excluder - Nobody told me the new ones folded in half!!!!

I'm still trying to work out how to drop the roof while its garaged. I have a problem getting in as the garage has a pillar that cannot be moved - Its bang on where the door is and there is no avoiding it and due to a a medical op last year I have a problem getting in and out of the zed unless the door id wide open. So far the only solution seems to be remove the proper key from the fob and use the door lock to drop the roof as my old E85 - not an ideal solution but a solution nevertheless. I haven't seen a way to program the fob yet. another ordinary, old fashioned key hanging up on a nail in the garage is one way around the problem if the fob cannot be electronically coded.

As its a dull day today, I'm going to organise my gap insurance and have a good read of the book. Boring but it has to be done.

All in all - I'm happy and I'm sure I will enjoy the car - I have to cos she says I'm not getting another one!

re getting in. double click the key fob. then when you open the door, the glass will lower. this does make in easier.

re first aid kit. there is a little door on the boot floor, on the left. try in there! :)

Great news Ronk - you'll feel at home right away i'm sure, i certainly do after my e85!

We took it down to South of France last summer & it was a great drive, no worries about long distance comfort or boot space with the top down if you pack right! :driving:

And let's see the pics!!! :P

Congrats Ronk, like you I park in a confined space and after having the Zed 3 months I've only just discovered you can drop the drivers window when outside the car by clicking open twice (slowly) and then opening the door drops the window, it really does make all the difference between struggling to get in and is now a breeze and far easier :)

Tim.
