E89 28i

How would insurers know ?
Well, if it was driveable by an assessor they may well spot the 100bhp difference.
I would not want to be in a position where my cover was refused if they did find out.
OK, I am an old git but for adding stage 1 to my cover I was quoted an extra £54). 18% power increase on an Audi S4.

Not wanting to be asking ‘how did they know’ when your home is being repossessed to pay for someones new legs!

They must be able to tell, perhaps they do an ECU check or something.

I previously had an E85, 2.5si, with 218BHP - underpowered in my view, had to really work the gears (manual) to get it to perform. Sure, the turbo engines may perform differently, but the E89 20i is much less powered then the 28i. That's my thinking anyway, although have to admit I haven't driven either.r

The 2.0i can easily be mapped (without issues) for around £250 to exceed the output of the 28i yet sell for approx £2500 less on like for like vehicles :?
I see little logic in holding out or seeking out a 28i then paying a premium for it over the 2.0i :(

Insurance...interestingly have just run 3 quotes...my modified car 20i, an unmodified 28i and a modified 28i but no ECU remap the prices were:

294 / 258 / 303 GBP

So if you ‘fess up to any mods, in my case, shocks, wheels, tyres, spoiler you might as well get the ECU thrown in..

The 28i has 330mm front disc vs 300mm on the 20i 18i...having changed mine from 300mm to 330mm I cant discern the difference...

Relative to the 20i the 28i has different software in the engine ECU aka DME...

£300 is the floor for a ‘quality’ remap in my part of the world...

So economically the 20i with upgrades beats the 28i..more importantly if you want specific choices of colour/trim/options it gives more room to source/haggle..

But it’s not a path for everyone...

Well I did the deed today, bought a 2014 28i. Very nice condition, just 20k miles, 1 owner. Possible my favourite colour, metallic grey, with black interior - not my favourite, but works well with the grey.

Just a few little stone chips and scratches they have to fix, also they will be fitting an OEM wind deflector (at their cost). Collect the car next week. Can't wait!

That would be the mineral grey , a great colour for the E89 & a safe combo with the black trim .
Glad your quest was successful , any plans for it ?

Main plans are to use it, including a trip to northern Spain, driving back up through France later this year.

If you mean mods, I'm more of a keep it standard sort of person, but will fit one of those things that lets you operates the roof remotely (I had a Gaptech on my E85, but not sure if they do them for the E89). Also will look into whether it's possible to back-fit the cubby hole shelving unit between the sets, as it doesn't have the extended storage.

I will be keeping my whippy aerial!

Glad you managed to find one.

Now all we need are some photos!

In anticipation of picking up my car next week I downloaded the owners manual to read. One thing I'm not clear about is the 'stop-start'. Will the engine cut out at the traffic lights like my 5 series does, or is it just referring to the stop start button?

Also I plan to remove the 'm' badges from the sides, but out of interest, were these fitted as standard on m sport spec cars or has someone added them?
