E89 23i remap any experiences ?

as i said in another thread, i definitely would consider a remap on any turbo charged engine, big gains to be had in both power and driveability.

if an engine is N/A i definitely would not consider a remap.

Just had a reply from Celtic. £295 all inclusive for the basic map done at your home or work, £365 for e motion+ which appears to be a self tune device which they post to you to play with. Not interested in the e motion+ but £295 for a remap seems very tempting regardless of whether I ultimately change to a 3 litre variant.

That’s interesting, I’ve had my quote back and it’s £360 for either a visit or emotion2+ The one quoted earlier in the thread by Tinker15 http://remap-uk.co.uk/ seems to give the same sort of figures at £149. I need to travel anyway when I get it done so an extra hr or so each way is worth a £210 saving if it’s the same results.

Saying that bought a new set of wheels this morning so it’ll maybe have to wait

I hope the re-map is better than their website..its broken in a few places..the good news is that its more difficult to break a non turbo car with a re-map..their figures for my re-mapped XC70 seem amazing..maybe too good to be true..caveat emperor..

Can’t disagree - Website doesn’t seem to be the best - it’s claims for mine are +50 hp. I did ask Tinker about this and he said to give them a call. As I said I bought new wheels today and can’t get out until July so it’ll a while yet.

It’s B 4 BMW who do it in Glasgow so I’ll give them a call closer to the time

50 extra BHP from a NA engine that was already developed by BMW seems to good to be true given that most others are saying 15BHP ish..

B4 for BMW are a premier priced set up though not as premier priced as a BMW main dealer), I've used them twice, once for my Z4 re-map and also some major cam chain/oil drive/diff and they were first class..only issue on both occasions there were issues which needed sorting so its a long round trip for me..Andy the chief is a hard working guy with a good focus on his customers..if you can afford them I recommend them!

They know these cars well..better than some independents..IMHO

The reason I chose re-map uk is that they were cheap. Well I am from Yorkshire! 😉 If you’re lucky on a NA you will get 10 to 15BHP and I figured £400 was just too much to pay for limited return.

Well I’m Scottish so we’re supposed to be even worse 😉

I meant to say in my reply to Pbondar that’s why you’d said to call them that the website claim and what you’d said to expect were different. For the return £149 is worth the punt £360 not so much for 10hp. The smoother drive and delivery is the appealing thing.

I have a 23i and have also thought about doing this. With it being such a small increase in power is there any real risk to the engine over time?

Is it also a hassle to insure after having it done or do you just omit that :p

I'm quite happy with how the car is currently but would also like more clarification on the difference from those who have had this done. As a non technical car person how is the ride different after the remap? Even just small details. Mine is automatic would it just have smoother acceleration and gear changes etc.

Fuel efficiency is obviously not a strong point of this car, are the gains made at a significant further penalty to this fuel efficiency or barely different?
