E89 2.8i

Hi
I am considering upgrading my E85 3.0 next year to an E89 2.8i and have a couple of questions.

Is the automatic option actually a full auto box or is it DCT? Other than preference etc are there any pro's and con's over the manual?

Cruise control is an important option. If not fitted can it be retrospectively fitted?

Apologies if similar has been asked previously.

Many thanks
Ady

I believe that the DCT option is only available on the 35i, so the 28i will have a regular auto box.

Not sure about retro fitting cruise control, I seem to recall posts on this forum from peope who have done it.

Hi, cruise can be retrospectively added but needs to be coded to enable it to work-there’s some threads on here about it

Why specifically a 28i :? not that there's anything at all wrong but why not also consider the 20i if its a 4pot single turbo you are after

Many thanks for the replies guys.
The 2.8i appealed for the power output but I see a 2.0 can easily mapped to give similar. Ive never mapped a car before and just slightly concerned about brakes etc being up to it?
The E85 has been brilliant and incredibly reliable so hoping to emulate that so will have to my research and this forum is a fantastic source.
Will keep you posted

I went from a 28 to a 20 and TBH didn't really notice any difference, but then I'm no boy racer! :D

Next week'll be 2018 and all E89s will be a year older and a bit cheaper. So, will a 35i, with DCT & cruise control, be within reach financially?

The alternative you've mentioned, with a non-DCT auto box and needing cruise control retro-fit, isn't a good compromise.

Hi Ady, for your interest here’s a bmw publication which compares the engine performance of the 2litre in 28i guise compared to the 3litre n52 engine, the Dyno figures are on page 10-bear in mind that the 20i can be mapped to outperform the 28i
