e89 18i Sportier sound

Hey everyone,

I drive an E89 Z4 18i and I’ve been trying to get a sportier exhaust sound out of it. I recently went to a local shop and had a custom muffler installed, hoping it would give me the aggressive sound I’m looking for—but unfortunately, I’m still not satisfied. It sounds a bit better than stock, but it’s nowhere near what I had in mind.

Has anyone here had success getting a deeper, more spirited sound out of the 18i? I know it’s not the 35i, but surely there are some decent options out there.

Also, if anyone has recommendations for a good cat-back system that doesn’t break the bank, I’d really appreciate it. Looking for something that gives more character without being overly obnoxious.

A cat back system that is cheap, much sportier sound without being obnoxious or presumably drony for a 18i…you know hens, look for their teeth and that’ll give you a clue Nik.

You can’t have all what you want I’m afraid chief.

The problem you have is aftermarket exhausts don’t really exist for low power E89 Zeds as the demand isn’t there, so unless you pay a reputable manufacturer for R&D you’re goosed.

That’s the problem when you buy a hot dog and later you want for it to taste like a filet mignon. (Chicago adage.)

Backbox delete... cheap to do, probably get a little more power too. And more legal than a cat delete, although that's possibly the sound you're after.

Though as said, a turbo four will never sound that great really.
