E89 1000 miles covered , thoughts & comparisons

The E85/86 dash is a disappointment compare to many cars these days, but we have to remember these cars are not modern any more

It always amazes me that the E89 is virtually the same size as the E85/86 :o
When I roll up at meets I always feel that my Zed is a pocket sized version of these E89 beasts :D
Nice write up Andy

Yes and I much prefer the E89 dash and overall interior to the E85/86.

+1 - I prefer the exterior design of the E85/6 but think that the E89 interior is better looking

A really interesting read, thanks OP and others who've contributed.

Can't wait to pick mine up tomorrow. I've never owned any of the previous Z incarnations, but a lot about the actual driving experience from the testdrive shone through in the posts.

I spent 5days mulling over whether the 2.5i was the right powerplant for me, but when I thought back to the testdrive, although it is a bit lacklustre in terms of torque lower down the rpm range, the way it picks up its skirt above 4.5k rpm reminded me a little of my S2000 I had way back. :driving: Add to that the lovely sound of the straight six and it was a winner. I think the fact that you have to work the engine a bit more makes it even more rewarding.

For me the Zed was the winner vs. a Boxster / Cayman. Just couldn't get my head around spending another 4-5k for something which would've been a good 3-4yrs older, less impressive inside, with less necessary toys and more running costs. One day I'll get myself a Porsche, but when I'm able to fish in the deeper pond of quality machines. In the meantime, I'm hoping that the Zed will tick the box for a long time to come.
