Hello,

I am upgrading my bumper from a z4 to a z4m bumper on my e86.
I was wondering if I need the brake ducts installed as the original z4 bumper does not have brake ducts?

Yes you need the ducts for the z4m bumper. You basically delete the fog lights. You won't get a lamp error warning, the fogs are not on the canbus system. I just bagged up the plug ends and tie-wrapped them up out the way before fitting the brake ducts.

thanks for your responses, thats what i was planning on doing as I heard that to.
how come you need the brake ducts as the original z4 bumper does not have them?

Well unsure if you have facelift or non-facelift, but the face lift has fog lights and brackets with a wide front grill. The z4m bumper has a smaller centre grill with a duct each side hence the need for them.

Tbh for what you are doings it's more the asthetics. Non ///M's don't have the ducts, but if you don't fit them the bumper will have holes at the back on either side.

The ducts fit to the wheel arch liner. Where tou have that inspection flap for the foglights, you need to remove that and put the brake duct in it's place.

I just replaced one of mine as it had been destoryed by debris on the road. Not cheap!

To be honest i cant see how they are "break ducts" more tyre cooling ducts!

If you could fabricate some custom fog brackets and covers i think that would look much better.
