E86 water leak passenger footwell

Has anyone had problems with major amounts of water puddling on the passenger footwell of a Coupe?
Found my floor pan drenched last night and looking under the carpets. The water is under the carpets, not on top of. After taking the windscreen scuttle pan off having removed the wipers, I can see the heater fan/element has a load of black mastic round it, as if it’s been a problem in the past for a previous owner. Anyone else had this problem?
The drain areas are clean although both little drain “cups” by the two wings seem to be very loose....maybe that’s the design??
Pictured below is the heater fan/element with mastic on it (left of photo).
I read previous posts and people have mentioned door membranes but I have discounted this, as I can actually see water trickling down the inside of the firewall behind the glovebox, when I empty a watering can over the windscreen.
Any advice appreciated, thanks, Jamie

I have the same problem.
Waiting for the weather and a suitable opportunity to tackle taking the windscreen scuttle off for a poke around.
I replaced my pax side door membrane last summer as there was very little left of the original one only to find a veritable swimming pool under the carpet only on pax side again recently.
I suspect there may be more than one point of ingress than just the heater matrix area so I'm also considering doing a smoke test to see what leaks from the inside out and that should flag up my water ingress point/s.

But until then....

I think Stigj recently posted he was having an issue with a bulkhead leak. Have a search. Not for the faint hearted though, as I think he stripped most of the interior out to get to it.

One of the simpler causes is the scuttle and drains being bunged up with leaves and debris, worth cleaning that out first

Hi

i have also water leak on the driver side (left for me :-)),
at the beginning i thought that it was due to a front windscreen replacement
but finally i found that water was coming through the door seal at the bottom where both sides are joining
i can drive and no water comes in, but if i keep the car under rain, my carpet is full of water very quick

i will ask the door searl to be replaced during my next maintenance.

Basically I’ve discovered the plastic scuttle tray at the bottom of the windscreen had a small nick in it. During this extreme wet weather we’ve all been having, the rain has exploited this and forced its way under the scuttle tray into the heater unit and then into the car behind the glove box. This unit should never be exposed to water as it’s in a “dry” part of the engine bay protected by the windscreen scuttle tray. Can anyone confirm that, is this never meant to get wet?
Sealing the top edge of the scuttle tray will solve the problem in theory, but when in the future you need to remove the tray again to clean out the drain holes for example, you’ll have to re do the whole sealant job.
I can only assume this scuttle tray is a weak design and over time deteriorates and isn’t as snug as when new, hence letting water in.
My drains were all clear by the way.
As I’ve had such a nightmare with this and the car completely flooded, I’m going to fork out on a new scuttle tray which I’m hoping will fit properly and not ever let water near that heater fan unit again.

Hi all. I finally fixed the leak. Turns out a slightly damaged windscreen scuttle tray was letting an excess amount of water in, which was finding it’s way into the pollen filter housing via the water defector underneath the scuttle tray. Bit of sealant on both and problem solved! For a more permanent fix a new scuttle tray is needed.

Having removed the seats, I now have the airbag warning light staying on. Anyone in the West Sussex area got a reader that might be able to clear it for me please? Jamie

When i look at the pollen filter inlet it’s vertical with what looks like the only way water could enter is when leaves or debris have built up causing water to divert into the filter opening under the scuttle on the passenger side.

As I understand the whole area under the scuttle is designed to channel water to the 2 drains either side, no?

I didnt have debris that would cause water to divert but I’m still getting ingress.
