e86 usb charger

Does anyone if one of these chargers will sit flush with the cigarette lighter socket on the e86? As in will I be able to just leave it all the time with the ashtray door closed?

I know BMW do an OEM one but the price is too much for something that will be very rarely used.

Yes you will be able to close the ashtray with it fitted, I Have one in my 86 and it closes with no trouble.

Expensive, I bought a load of these:

I went with a dual socket £5 jobbie from a Shell station. Works well and fits under the ashtray cover. Protrudes about 1cm from the top of the socket.

Just remember that its a permanent live feed (really, very good design there BMW)

Is it? In the E87/E60 it used to turn off along with the ignition, which is lame if you are still in the car and using one of those BT streaming kits as the music turns off.

BMW one is a nice bit of kit and higher current for fast charging devices.

Worth looking for! My cheapy petrol station one puts out 2.5A on one socket and 1A on the other. Charges the iPad!

Ok I've received the Belkin charger today but, the LED doesn't seem go off. Locked the car for 30 mins now and it is still on.
Is that normal? I thought the car should sleep after 20 something minutes and switch off power to the cig lighter?

pretty sure mine was too

Mine is permanently on, as I found out when I went on 'holiday' for a month. I came back and it had turned itself off. And the alarm. And the remote locking.

The battery was COMPLETELY flat (not even rechargeable) and I had to shell out for a new one. :(
