E86 Tyre recommendations

Hi all,

I had an advisory on my MOT for all 4 tyres so I'm looking about to see what to buy. Does anyone have any recommendations for an E86 on 18" wheels? Its my daily driver so looking for non-RFT, and suitable for all weather (dont want a winter set). Not looking to spend a fortune but want something decent and not a set of ditch-finders.

Given the switch of all 4s & the coupes harsh ride characteristics I would give some thought into upping the sizes towards M specs
No downsides & everything to gain especially as a daily driver
245 40 rears 215 45 fronts
Choices aplenty but best buy - least money I would go Uniroyal RS3 around £340 or Hankook Evo2 at around £375 for a set of 4 delivered

After the above its Vredestein , Goodyear or Michelin in price order

You not mean 255/40 and 225/45 Andy?

No mate , ive run the above & like the set up , the 255 40 18s on M cars are on 9j rims so dropping to 245 for the 8.5 seems right :?
The front could well be 225 45 but 215 45 also works just as well especially if spacered or lowered

Ahyeah I forget the small widths on the standard rims, thought I'd double check :D

I have 215/35 on the front on mine, 215 is plenty wide enough on the Z I think

What's the benefit of fitting the ///M size tyres? Hadnt really thought about that.

Another thing is that I'm running non-standard wheels, fitted by the previous owner, and I'm not sure if the offsets are standard...

WIDTH(s):
8.5J FRONT-9.5J REARS
SIZE:
18"
OFFSET:
38 FRONT - 42 REARS

Anyone know?

The standard wheels are 8J 47 and 8.5J 50 so your wheels are wider and stick out a little bit more.

I'd run 235/40/18 and 255/35/18 or possibly a 45 and 40 profile if you've got room in your arches. For an 8.5 235 and 245 are the ideal sizes, you could run a 265 on the back but you don't want that much grip as it will understeer more and be less playful. The newer BMW performance cars run a 2cm stagger rather than a 3cm to give better front end response.
