E86 roof panel rust

Hi everyone! I could do with some advice.

I have spotted some rust on the underside of the roof panel of my E86 (2006) at the rear corners where it meets the rear window.

It isn’t very far progressed but I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue with their model and how they’ve dealt with it?

Is it worth taking the panel off, treating the areas where there is rust and touching up the paint or just leaving it for now. My main concern is it begins to rust the rest of the roof.

Any input is welcome! Thanks all in advance.

Would you kindly post some pics

In any event, don’t leave untreated

Check out Lanoguard as is designed for direct application on underside of vehicles, so on those affected areas of the roof should be an easy fix
 
Thanks so much - pictures below (completely forgot to post them!)

Noted there’s a rubber seal so it shouldn’t rust through to the other side of that but that does also make it quite awkward to get at the rust in its current position

I haven't seen that before, but it does look very difficult to get to.

Treating it with something like Lanoguard sounds like a good idea. I'd be concerned about the roof panel getting distorted if it was removed. I suppose a last resort would be to replace it with a carbon roof panel.

I thought that too, looks to me like that roof has been resprayed.
Its possible it's been damaged at some point and not sprayed very well?
If it was me and depending on how the rest of the car looks and how long you want it for i would clean that up with a tooth brush and get some Kurust on it with a model brush (small delicate one, it turns any rust black but will be invisible against the rubber seal then push some lanoguard in there either the grease or spray.
In this weather the grease will melt and run / creep which can be useful as it creeps into and under the roof line and will stop it rusting.
I fully lanoguard the underside of my Z4 E86 and all around the arches to keep it looking mint, there's no rust on that thing anywhere and I don't want any either as I'm totally paranoid but the grease I pushed into the arch lips all melted in the sun and spread to all the knocks and crannies when it got warm.
If definatly treat the rust first with Kurust (keep it to the rusty bits,) then the lanoguard liquid or grease. It's great stuff bud.
Plus it's good for your rubber lol
