E86 rear brakes, same as E46?

My local dealer has quoted £320 for new rear pads and discs on my 3.0si coupe. However I can see from their website that they will do the same on a e46 6 cylinder 3 series for £265. Is there any justification at all for the difference as I thought the parts were the same? Just trying to assess my chances of getting them down to the same price. Does £265 seem reasonable?

They should be the same size (Front 325 mm x25) but will be different part numbers and it may depend on the year & VIN number, and I think the E86 Si was available with drilled disc whereas the E46 wasn't ?

Anyway that seems a fair price if you are talking front and rear, at a dealer with BMW parts.

The e46 price may include a discount that's not applicable to the Z4 - much in the same way as the Value Inspections are discounted for the same engine in an e46 than an e85/86.

The justification is they can price whatever model they like at whatever price they feel is competitive. Perhaps 3 series as posted above carry discounts due to volume or keeping fleet/advertised running costs down.

You can of course haggle all you wish for a discount.

I'd just do the job myself for half the price and less than an hours work.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to know whether there was a 'real' reason for the extra cost or whether it is just marketing. If its the latter I will look to haggle harder than if the parts are genuinely more expensive on the E86.
