E86 numbers left in UK

Just a random question, I was curious to know how many (non M ) Coupes might still be left in the UK. I believe around 2500 were registered ? I could be wrong. So was curious to know if anyone can hazard a guess on how many might be left. The thought came into my head after seeing a silver manual Coupe with obvious bodywork issues and missing number plates stuck on someone's drive today.

A forum member compiled a very detailed database for 3.0Sis and Ms and based on that 2,189 E86 Sis were registered in the UK. Link here:- http://perso.numericable.fr/tonyz4c/index30si.html

But I've no idea how many may be left, and I don't think the DVLA data is exactly accurate!

I do know you don’t see many and when they are seen they look very special as in £20k plus cars in my opinion but obviously they are much cheaper in reality but whoever designed them did good :D

Take this with a pinch of salt...

We know the howmanyleft data is wrong because the 400 (approx) indicated above as registered new does not correspond to the 2189 that we know were actually registered. However, out of those 400, the decline in registrations since 2009 is broadly offset by the number of SORNs. So, assuming that the 400 is a representative sample of all E86s registered in the UK, you can reasonably assume that most of the E86s registered in this country still survive.

How come the data is so far out?

Exactly, all taken with a punch salt. However, what I will say though is, and I'm not defending that websites odd statistics.

Those figures on howmanyleft.com are stated for Si models from 2007+ only. That does not inc 2006 or any SE models from what I can tell. Out of 2189 models registered you mentioned, that site lists page 1 to 51 for 2006 models, then its page 52 to 88 showing 2007+. I can't be bothered to do the maths but that would put howmanyleft.com not capturing over 50% of the models if excluding 2006.

Although the website is hit & miss with info, some data at times can be slightly closer to the truth. I guess in this case, miles out as you suggested.

I am sure that every single E86 registered in the UK is on there somewhere, just not in the right category. For instance, my E86 was registered as a “Z4 SI SE” which is a mixed category containing 175 3.0l and 54 2.5l cars, so it definitely mixes up roadsters and coupes.

The point is E86s are spread across multiple categories, not just “Z4 3.0SI COUPE” and “Z4 3.0SI COUPE AUTO”.
