E86 Hesitation in turnover

Hi all
My E86 slightly struggles are on a cold start to start the engine, it’s like a half second delay before it turns on, it’s never not started but and I can’t say it’s getting worse however I’m more into preventative action so wondering what would be the best place to start please? I’m my ignorance I have had the car on a trickle charger Overnight recently hoping it might me something as simple as an old battery but that hasn’t made a permanent fix, for context I work from home now so the car is not a daily commuter nor a garage queen either.
Thanks

Starter motor?
If the brushes have worn then not only will it be struggling but it also has to contend with all the debris from those brushes clogging up the works.
It could be that this is highlighting a slightly below par battery too.
Just because you trickle charge it does not necessarily mean it is taking on a full charge.

It’s quite economical to replace the starter even it’s preventative maintenance. A new one can be had for not much more than £50 and it’s a straightforward fit (assuming you have the right tools) if a bit fiddly.

starter motor

just replaced one of mine and its like night and day turning over

I recently had this problem on my e85 and it turned out to be leaky/dirty injectors. My car is a 2008 with the N52 engine. I got away with just cleaning the injectors with alcohol and replacing the o-rings.

What gave away the issue was the fuel rail looked “wet” around some of the injectors and lots of dust had collected there. So it’s quick to visually check for the issue before going through the labor of replacing things.
