E86 - Electric Window broken!

Hi all - wondering if you can help me on this one!

My passenger side electric window had been struggling for a couple of weeks making a grating sound as it went up and down - with a slightly slower action due to friction.

Today - the action moved to a crawl and you could hear the motor struggling. As a result the window will now not fully raise - approx 1 inch from closing. The window will still lower and raise but this is the highest I can get it before it gives up and goes straight back down again! I've searched and seen a few issues but these seem to involve the window becoming completely inoperable - whereas in my case it isn't. Well, not yet anyway!

Any guidance would be appreciated - its booked into my specialist on Friday but any hints in the meantime would be great - hopefully it will remain dry and nobody will nick it....

Search for 'window regulators' on here and all will be revealed. Common fault unfortunately. My passenger side has just gone too. :x
 
about 160 GBP for the part and 2 hrs moderately easy diy job.

1.5hrs should be the labour from a garage.

When you say moderately easy fix?! I am pretty useless to be honest - I can take the foam out of the sound generator but that's about it!

I will get the specialist to diagnose and then quote on a solution.

As an update it turned out the cable wasn't broken but was twisted and frayed. Result being entire regulator kit replaced - why don't they just sell the bloody cable?!

Oh well, it works now :)
 
2003 3i Cable frayed window jammed halfway, ordered 1 of these from Ebay.

BMW Z4 E85 E86 WINDOW REGULATOR REPAIR KIT FRONT LEFT.

@ marlon20 Hey, just wondering how you got on with using that eBay repair kit on your window regulator? Both my driver & passenger sides on my Z4 have gone (cable snapped) and need replacing... Just researching my options & pricing.... I was considering buying that repair kit but your feedback would be gratefully appreciated! Thanks a mill
