E86/E85 facelift LED tailight, has one ever been repaired?

Hi All

I have a dim tail light LED on one side. I have read through all the old posts about possible repairs but none end up with a fix. Has anyone successfully repaired one of these units or is it a trip to the breakers? It seems the LED's are a few pence each, a new unit is £150 second hand. I am a bit "brassic" at the moment so would be willing to give a repair a go.
 
The silence is deafening! I guess it has not been done? I have ordered a second hand unit as the MOT is looming, and will try to repair the old one. :cry:
If I can get the bits and make it work I will post a "how to" on here. If anyone has advice on LED's required or any helpful hints I would be happy to hear them.
 
Never heard it being done! Repair should be straight forward, the problem will be opening it in such a way where you don’t damage the light too much. Be interested to hear your findings, good luck :)
