E86 current market values

Hi
Been noticing a few coupes coming up lately and personally I feel the market values may have reduced slightly, I’m not a trader and it’s just my opinion so I wondered what other people are thinking about the current market?

Downwards as expected. I would not buy an E85/86 now as the prices are over inflated.
 
As all second hand cars are overpriced. The expectation was that after the peak the prices would correct, which is happening now. Buying any second hand car now is madness really
 
Coupes have always been priced at a premium, but weirdly don’t seem to have increased in price as much as second hand cars generally, or even E85. There are a few two litres on the market for up to £6k ( :? ) and nice 3.0Si are knocking £10k. I have been looking at coupe prices carefully over the last two years and reckon prices have gone up by about £1k-£2k across the board (more for Ms) in that time. These cars will always be sought after for their mix of good looks, performance and rarity. There will be a correction for sure, but not a big one for E86. I still think it is a great value proposition.
 
I think the time of year is probably a factor too. Although prevailing weather doesn't really affect Coupe prices, most people aren't thinking of buying cars at this time of year.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the Spring!
 
Prices are pretty strong atm. WBAC offered me £7k for mine - 58-plate with 136k on the clock. I know they would have chipped me down for stone chips and wear an tear but that's the highest price I have seen.
 
I’ll keep an eye on prices next year, I had been toying with the idea of purchasing an upgrade car as an investment as as we all know savings don’t seem to do much and id much rather have something to physically admire rather than a few grand in savings, I was assuming getting the right car would vastly put perform interest returns and if I’m being wholly transparent it’s an excuse to treat myself with a decent financial reasoning as my motive… I thought the e86 had already bottomed so regardless of the current over inflated market the E86 market had halted or slightly increased. I don’t feel the coupes should be hugely impacted by seasonal trends but I could be wrong..also assuming that the MC’s may also have a slightly different trajectory based on the increasing rarity compared to the non M’s
I could possibly squeeze into a z4 m coupe now so didn’t want to miss the boat as they are on increase like I did with the Z3M, I’ve had 3 z3’s in the past before I got the e86 I considered the Z3M but they are well beyond my means now
 
I think Breadvan prices may well be one of the reasons why Z4MC prices are so strong, others also not wanting to miss out in case they take off like Breadvan prices have!

Although if that does happen I will have finally bought the right car at the right time. :lol:
 
PVR (see above) seems to think “buying any second hand car now is madness” so who knows?!?!
Now I know the classic comment is you should not but these cars for an investment however some people just do! Let’s hope the market doesn’t crash however if it goes it’ll only be online with others so it’s all relative
 
Used car prices always soften slightly this time of year November/December. Prices will start to firm back up in the new year as demand increases again in January.

Personally I think used car prices will stay firm. Cox Automotive ( owners of Mannheim Auctions and Auto trader) have predicted used car prices will stay firm until new car supply levels return back to pre pandemic levels which is estimated later 2022 early 2023.

Also with regards to a Z4 Coupe these are a rare car, that are a modern classic, so a low mileage low owner car is likely to be a good investment, the hard part is finding that car!!
 
This is an interesting topic & I would be most interested if the value of my Z would be considered as being over inflated ? as I was thinking of selling it in the near future & would be looking for minimum £16,000 which I thought was a good \ fair price, & to add some context on determining this value when compared to other Coupes available , this car is a March 2009 fully factory specced E86 Z4 3.0Si Sport Coupe in Black Sapphire with Champagne Nappa interior, the car is in mint show condition both externally & internally, its always stored under cover in a garage & only comes out on nice days, its never seen the UK roads in winter, I have owned it since registered back in 2009 when purchased from BMW with delivery miles, I have strived to keep the car completely standard with the exception of changing out the originally specified runflats for Pilot sports 4 which are also like new, the mileage is currently sitting at 27,833, I have both the keys, all the original invoice paperwork \ receipts, etc & since owning this car it has only ever been serviced & maintained by the local BMW dealer & it is still covered by a fully comprehensive BMW warranty, so I would be most interested in whether or not my Z4 peers would considered the price I would be looking for as being fair & reasonable or over inflated
(I alway remember my father saying that a car is only ever worth what someone is willing to pay for the privilege of owning)

This is a difficult one given the current prices of Z4MC cars.

There's a 2006 3.0si Coo Pee on Autotrader with 23k miles on it going for £16950 so you might be right or you might be wrong and it's worth more or it's worth less.

If you sell it then it will go for whatever someone wants to pay for it. If someone thinks it's worth £16k then you'll get that or you wait months to get it sold.

Even though it's been serviced by BMW etc. it only shows you've serviced the car.

Is the servicing by the service indicator? Yearly? Every two years?

Mine gets an oil and oil filter change (Millers Nanodrive now Millers Performance) every year regardless of mileage, air filter and pollen filter along with brake fluid change.

Your bushes will probably need replacing sooner rather than later, the springs will break, the window regulator will die and all the other problems are still there with your car no matter how much you look after it. The service history is probably worth an extra £500 - £1000. My car has a thick folder of servicing, receipts and details of all work carried out on the car since it was new.

You might be lucky and find someone that is impressed with BMW servicing in the book or they might just spend another couple of £k and get themselves into a 99k miles Z4MC. You'll never know until you try and sell it.

You don't have to worry about the roof motor though as you originally bought the wrong car! :poke: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
 
Yours sounds like a pretty unique E86 Bill, and welcome to the forum BTW. :thumbsup:

And unique cars are hard to value, so I'd agree with what your father said!

The only way to find out would be to advertise it and see what sort of response you get. But if you do, expect to get asked for some photos. :lol:
 
Welcome to the forum. I reckon you are right on the money, although it might be a thin market. Most people looking to get into Z4C ownership want to spend in the £8-12k range at the moment. Some lowish (40k) milers have been hanging around at £14k+, but yours might appeal to someone looking for a collector’s car.

As skelters said, it’s not much of a jump to a MC, which might narrow the market even more.
 
Thanks for all the feedback folks, there is certainly some great points & plenty of food for thought there, to be honest we have not advertised her for sale anywhere as we are not in any real hurry to let the old girl go given the length of time she's been with us, but if someone was keen to give her a good home we might just let her go, Ive added some pics just so you guys can see her in the flesh

Or if you are seriously thinking of selling place a "For Sale" advert in the classified section. You don't need to have made previous posts and it's free so you'd have nothing to lose. Although as I discovered 2 years ago this may not be the best time of year to be selling!
