Before I go down the OEM route has anyone bought any floor mats from another supplier which have been as good and perhaps cheaper?

A lad in work got some custom made ones for around £100. There really good and he could design the whole thing. Il try and find out the company's name.
 
Have a look on e-bay under parts and accessories for "BMW Z4 floor mats" and you will be very pleasantly surprised at how many good, custom fit mats come up. I got some perfectly good quality ones for 20 quid, made to order, AND with Velcro fixing on passenger side! You can pay a bit more for thicker pile though.
