E86 Coupe bumper clips at wheel arch

I just picked up my E86 Coupe at the weekend. It's in great condition but about a week before I picked it up the previous owner parked too close to a kerb, caught the bottom of the front bumper and in turn this broke the clip that attaches the bumper to the wheel arch.

I've had a look around the forum and have seen the 'how to', but it applies to the E85 roadster (I think), which is slightly different to the coupe.

I understand the clips are quite expensive. Are there any installation guides around here? It must be an easy job but I thought I'd ask before I try to do it 'blind' and snap a clip.

you mean these?

No not those ones. They attach the top of the bumper to the bottom of the wheel arch where they meet at the front edge. I think they're about £25 + VAT

yes they are a min of £30 - two or three screws hold them in, I think Bing replaced his recently

They were £25 + VAT each at a dealer IIRC. I can't think of any reason why the coupe and roadster should differ in any way when it comes to getting the bumper off as the front end is identical. So the removal guide should be fine for you.

The bumper removal guide has pictures from my replacement near the end of the thread. Unfortunately they are not held in by screws, they are held to the wing itself by some large and impossible to remove clips that are actually art of the whole fitting you buy. Apparently even the BMW TIS states that the fitting needs cut apart - carefully - with snips.

Taking the bumper off and getting it back on are easy as ranski will testify. Sorting the fittings is 'easy', but is a PITA and requires great care to ensure you don't bend the metal wing out of shape whilst you are trying to cut up the old fitting and get it out.

Hope that all helps

Does anyone know the part number for this? It's the nearside (left) front clip that attaches the bumper to the wing.

As Bing says coupe and roadster are the same with regard to front and rear bumpers.

I would probably use a dremel to carefully remove plastic around the clip area. Mask the wing to cover any slippage and then when nearly through snap it off.

New one should just push in.

Any pics of what we're talking about here? I just took my M bumper off and refitted it, had to order some blind rivets for the wheel. Arch trim to bumper join (4 rivets each side). Under the car there's two bolty screws each side and three normal cross head screws in the middle.

Ahh I used the first page of that for removing my bumper. Didn't see your pics :) my clips seem to have gone back ok - tiny tiny bit of gap but I think I can fix that by adjusting the under bonnet screws and therefore the bumper angle. Bit of a newb at bumper fitting :)

Good idea, thanks :)
