E86 coding extras

Cheers chaps, will give this a try. IMmie is tucked up in her nest about a mile from home so will report back next time she comes out to play.

Yes, aquazi is right, if I set them to Main the AEs do turn on.
Thanks :)
However when I set the same lights to turn on On Exit -> On lock, nothing happens (I have set the rear side lights, brake bar, and AEs to turn on)
Anything else I have to enable?

That's quite strange, there is only one routine that controls the lights, the values that are set for Entry, Exit and DLR are all the same. Having the AE's come one when 'Main' is set is odd, but understandable. Having the AE's come on as Entry but not Exit lights indicates that the LCM is exerting some control over the lights depending on some other factors.

The RLS option will only prevent lights coming on when selected, the default is to come on regardless of the ambient light.

Ok fair enough.
Weird the way it doesn't work for On Exit then.
For the DRLs I can set the fogs or the low beams as DRLs but not the AEs, If it had Main option instead of Side it would probably work.

If you can take an iBus log of the 'On Exit' not working I'll be able to tell if this is a problem with the messages not being sent or not being acted upon.

Ok here it is:

REG-DEBUG: com type not either - setting to 0
Stopped logging at 00:04:44 on 30/09/2003

So I have hooked everything up. Locked the car, then locked and unlocked again.
Lights come on on unlock but not on lock.

The 'lock' message is in the log you posted, but there is no response from the Intravee, it's not trying to activate the lock lights.

This means that either :

- The Intravee thinks that the key is still in the ignition.
- The Exit Light duration is set to 'Disabled'.

Could you double check the Exit Light duration, change it and change it back again if it's set.

Ok the duration must have set itself to disabled after the update. It was on 10s.
After resetting it t 10s, all is good :)
Thanks for your help Richard.

One last thing if I can get working I'd be 100%
Can the AEs be enabled as DRL? Either via intravee or NSCExpert?
The dipped beams and fogs work as DRLs from intravee but I'd like the AEs to be always on, without me changing the light switch position.

Because the Z4 requires the 'Main Beam' setting to activate the AE's (side lights) with the current firmware this is not possible. It will need either a setting specifically for the Z4 or a general option to have the main beam lights as DLRs. I'll have a look and see which option is easier to implement.

Well since the AEs get triggered ok when locking/unlocking, it should be possible to add that option to the DRLs right?
Would be perfect for the next FW update :)

In the meantime can I set that via NCSexpert?

I don't think it can be coded in NCSexpert, it's not for older cars, maybe possible for newer.

It's definitely possible to add the AE's as DRLs on the Z4, just a question of the best way to do it.

To do it 'properly' I'd add two new vehicle types, Z4 and Z4 Face Lift, there would act the same as the E46 options for all but the AEs. It would mean reorganising the Vehicle Type menu into two menus as there is not enough room for more types on one screen.

The alternative approach would be to enable coding of 'Main Beam' as DLR's, that's not very intuitive but easier to code.
