E86 Centre console removal

Hi,

I’m going to (attempt...!) to remove my centre console and dash this weekend to install my new piano black trim.

I’ve obviously looked at loads of how to guides online but most of them seem to refer to the E85 when it comes to removing the rearmost part of the centre console.

Stupid question maybe, but is it the same process without the folding roof mechanism there?

Thanks for the help, I’ll post some pictures of when it’s all done.

I've done both and can confirm they are the same. For what it's worth this is the guide I've used twice. Really good step by step process.

If you attempt it, just make sure you follow the instructions about sticking a pin in the door. It's lower down in the comments section.

I’d read the guide but not the comments section, thanks for the tip!

I'm going to ask a question now. I have the phone option, and I'm trying to remove the rear console door and I'm up to the point of pulling the door out (with the pin, at the correct angle etc.) but would like to know what happens to this cable when the door is removed? Is there a connector somewhere?

Cable stays attached, you eject the whole phone holder from the door, 2 pieces. Pin goes in the hole on the side of the door. Sadly no photos of that part of the job but here's one for encourgament!

Thanks you very much, can you expand on the splitting out of the phone holder? Does the cradle come off like this or is there a further step?

Thanks for the replies and info SRHutch.
I know many of you have done this procedure before, and to that end, this is old news, but this will hopefully help someone else.
So, firstly, when I place a pin (screwdriver for me) in the side of the door just after opening and let it fall, it stops at this point. This is apparently the correct angle to remove the door.

To remove the phone cradle, place two cards either side of the cradle.

These are the clips you are releasing:

I hope this helps anyone who may need to remove their console.
