E86 Brake Upgrades?

Evening guys,

I'm hoping someone will be able to assist.

I'm loving the coupe now since fitting the diff, along with the suspension mods etc - trackdays are a riot and it's a pleasure on the road to boot :)

The issue I'm having however is with the brakes... I believe the approach I've had thud far was the best one - leave it all as it is, get out on track and start to explore where the limits are (both my own talent, and over time the car!).

I've done a couple of trackdays on OE brembo discs and pads, and basically the pads are shagged. The discs are fine - surprisingly not warped despite a hellish level of heat put into them, but the pads are starting to crumble and basically feel pretty wooden now.

I've tried to find a set of mintex 1144 pads or ferodo ds2500s but they don't seem to do them in the 3.0si caliper pattern.

I don't really want to spend a fortune on massive brakes as I don't believe at this stage they are justified for the few track outings I have a year.

So a summary of my above ramblings;


1. Is Anyone able to advise from direct experience the correct part numbers for either Mintex 1144s or 1155s, or ferodo Ds2500s pads?

2. Can anyone recommend a caliper/brake kit upgrade which won't break the bank?!

Hi mate, I have tracked my car a good few time and have had no issues with fade or loss in anyway, I changed mine to the MTEC kit with the mintex pads as the original discs were very rusty and had heavy lips around the edges ,
top kit and performance is excellent. Only cost around £200 so not to bad all in

You'll have no issues with ds2500's with ATE TYP 200

The Si's run the same size brakes as 330 estates, they are plenty big enough.

Stock Brembo pads are ok for the road, we'll out of their depth on track though!

Cheers Adam, that definitely the right size? I've seen a few threads recent of people buying pads and them being the wrong fitment despite being described as fitting....!

I'm running the e46 m3 setup so they are a different part number to yours so I cannot confirm from experience that they are the correct part number but they look to be..

How did you fit the e46 M3 setup? I heard they wouldn't fit?
 
In my honest opinion.... don't bother!

It cost me a lot for M3 Calipers, Genuine discs & Ds2500's

The discs are the same size as the stock Si, just 3mm wider and semi-floating.
 
How did you get the calipers to fit? Just curious as I'd head the mounting g bolt holes were totally different to the si ones? Yeah m3 brakes never got the best rep - most tend to put aftermarket stuff on almost straight away for track use!
 
Common mod over on the .org forum is fitting the M135I calipers and M3 discs. There's a write up on doing it to the Si z4's.
