E86 bird bath aka water on rear boot lid

Has anyone come up with a solution to stop the rear boot water feature?
Reluctant to put a car cover on, maybe that’s the only way.

Cheers

Just waiting for one of the roadster mob to say get a roadster :poke: :fuelfire:

Agree its a pain in the a*se. Mine may only go out once a week so will remove that water daily if its a wet week. Not sure of any potential damage but feels wrong to leave it settled there.

Sadly I think you just need to live with it - or get a cover!

No need, it’s been trotted out that often it’s just taken as a given you’ve got the wrong car :poke:   :tumbleweed:

41 minutes what took you so long :D

There have been many posts about it and yes I would presume it is the main reason for rust . I have also read a post saying that depending on the quality of the seal water can get trapped behind it so worth checking that . It is as said something you just have to keep an eye on and remove the water as often as possible especially in freezing conditions .

Got a storm force cover on the way hopefully that works out ok

That should do the trick . For peace of mind it`s definitely worth it . There are a couple for sale on the forum if you wanted to cancel your order.

could you get a piece of clear car wrap film cut that fits on the glass all the way round and onto the tailgate all the way round , with say an inch on the tailgate , but two or three inches at the bottom where the water sits ,, it wouldnt stop the water sitting in the grove ,, but it would mean the water wasnt under the glass and on the seal , it would be on the plastic , and the gap would stay dry ,,, just a thought.

Would probably look like you were trying to fox a leaky window
In theory it would work though
It wont cure the water sitting , but at least it would be dry under the clear '' gasket'' if rust and green mould were an issue and it could be peeled off for the summer ,, again its just a thought , maybe get the shape right and get a few laser cut ,,, I dont know a lot about the car wrapping thing.
