E86 automatic shifter/trim removal

How to remove the automatic gear knob in an e86? Just pull up?
And how about removing the silver trim in the middle of it?

It looks like this one:

Pull it upwards very hard.
Be careful as you will hit yourself in the face...
Don't try to twist while removing it or you strip its locating lugs and it won't then stay square ehen refitted

Never seen the trim removed from the lever

BTW - this thread is guaranteed a list of 'oh er matron' jokes involving some combination of pulling off, tugging, gripping, in the face, etc. and for roadsters stradling the centre while pulling

Yeah I guess removing it should be pretty straight forward but I am more interested in removing the silver trim on it.
Anyone attempted it before?

Be interested if anyone has done this - if the trim comes off easily I might ask MM to try and fabricate a stainless steel replacement... I am sure we discussed it a while back.

Tempted to take mine off just to have a look, but knowing me I will break my nose AND the gear knob

I'd put money on it being a 1 time press fit that will destroy the insert or leather trying to remove it.

You can buy a new CF from ebay for £40 which is probably no more than dipping inc postage, no gear shifter for a week, etc.
