E86 Auotmatic MPG

Lots of discussions about MPG on this forum, so I hope this helps someone..

I keep a record of every full up kind of like fuelly does for you, but I'm a bit old fashioned and jot it down in a book each time, here is my record since I purchased my 07 Coupe Auto:

Please note most of my journeys are usually quite short distance, which is why there are so many under 20mpg entries but equally so a a few long distance motorway miles..

Still 32mpg over just shy of 2 years seems pretty decent to me.. Just over the 31.4mpg average claimed by BMW...

Also you did 66 miles at and average of 8.56 mpg!! You could drive at 155 mph for 66 miles and get better mpg than that. That is 8 gallons of fuel to go 66 miles! How on god's earth did you manage that? Did you accidentally leave the car on for a couple of days?
 
Dont forget you dont always pick up when you're empty... in those cases its more than likely I had a long journey coming up and so filled up in advance...
 
My auto is very economical too. Officially speaking manuals are supposed to be more efficient, but in real world driving when the car is left in full auto and changes up at 1,500 - 2,000 revs when taking it easy, it proves more economical than if I was selecting gears myself.

I average around 25 mpg, which is rush hour commuting into Manchester everyday with some motorway use and the odd backroad blast working it hard with the paddles. Motorway driving is primarily with cruise control on at 90 leptons. I think that's fantastic for a 3.0 petrol regularly driven with enthusiasm and means I always have fuel budget left at the end of the month.

Looking to change to a 35is or XKR at some point so enjoying budget motoring while I can...
 
mine is a calculated figure, mine is 28.15mpg over 4 and half years of ownership, not bad for a 3.0ltr which is often driven on small journeys and is often driven quite hard

:? Like Zeld4 don't understand how the mpg was so low either? What were you doing? Drive at 10mph for that amount you filled up by or +160mph?!
 
If you see how I've calculated the mpg (based on how many miles have been done since the last fill up, divided by the number of litres purchased) it makes sense..

Like I said I filled up a few £ then drove a bit. However then had to make a large journey so went back and filled up again. Thats why the next mpg is so high too.. I dont always fill up from nothing in the tank (who does?) which makes it impossible to calculate exactly what you're doing for each trip.
 
thats not bad at all

my mercedes e220cdi does less than that, but we do almost no motorway miles
