E86 asking prices…..

What did I miss?

Has the uk supply of E86’s dropped by 80% overnight?

It seems that some of the asking prices for E86’s are now being measured on the ‘toilet roll prices during lockdown’ scale :?

:dizzy:

They massively vary at the moment, with so many poorly look after examples around they will go cheap and others are asking more than M models :|

[ref]True-Blue[/ref], it is madness as some are asking more than E86 M models.

No way on earth would I spend that on a standard E86

I've been keeping an eye out too. Everything from £4.5k 'high' milers/no service history, to £15k 'low' milers/cherished examples.

TBH the higher ones generally do look good (there was one advertised on here earlier today), and if you want a garage queen minter without M servicing and RTF costs then maybe, but it does feel like the market for coupes is a little frenetic at the moment and showing no real sign of equalising soon.

....now I'm just waiting for the 3.0se pre-facelift 'classic' 60-80k miler market to explode

3.0Si prices have gone a bit crazy!

I'm just glad I've still got an E86 when I think about what I sold my 3.0Si for 3 years ago. :o

Only those with M sport seats

The example above equates to almost 10p per mile difference in price. Is that how people and dealers are pricing their cars these days?
I hope so, as that should make my 30k miler E89 worth around £20k (which it isn't).

Two types of people selling cars privately IMO; realists and dillusionists. The latter seem to be outnumbering the former by a massive margin. Dealers don't count in my book as they are ALL chancers and crooks anyway IME.

It's definitely not just E86s either; I'm on the hunt for two cars ATM. It's an absolute minefield separating the wheat from the chaff, as the shite is priced the same as the gems.

Still love for someone to explain to me when and why private sellers decided to price their cars on a par, or in many cases above, dealer prices. Makes no sense to me. :?

You’d have to a little bit nuts to pay £15-£16k for an E86, I wonder how many are actually selling for that sort of money?

I call it the 'Lurpak syndrome'.

A guy came to see mine yesterday and is 6th in line to buy it. Has travelled the country looking for a decent E86 . Said there are so many chancers out there selling smokey, wrong coolant, oil leaking, tatty and unloved cars and he was pretty dispondent to what he was seeing available for the money, even in the trade sales. He had lost the will to find a decent one ( his words not mine) and mine is 10 miles from his home. Even after driving to Scotland this week to look for one. He wont be having mine as its going on Thursday to a guy 200 miles away. he is kicking himself for only looking on Autotrader at the time. So, seems you have to be prepared to travel to find a decent one. I had 12 people contact me about mine ( 3 today alone) but I spent 7 days waiting on the V5 after a cherished plate change, which slowed the process to sell, which appeared today. Roll on Thursday for my last drive and then watch it disappear out of view to start its next ownership.

Post COVID period syndrome, bought at the peak and trying to recover.

The 3.0 si I recently bought was the same, it had done 200 miles in just over a year. COVID purchase and realiity set back in and had to dump it, but the asking price was just not worth it.

I don't understand why you let a guy, who is 6th in line to buy, come to view your car when you have sold it anyway? :?
Makes no sense to me. But then nor do a lot of things these days! :|

The first thing that made no sense to you was why the midwife slapped your arse, so it's a lifelong thing. :D

You do talk sense sometimes Pondy, not often I hasten to add, but just sometimes I have to agree with you

He asked to have a look as only lived up the road. Was no commitment from me, he knew where he stood in line. He basically chatted about cars and the like for an hour . He did turn up in an E85 , which was his sisters , so was a bit of a BMW fanboy . No harm done was there ?

I ALWAYS talk sense. It's just not many people are on my 'wavelength' (which is probably a good thing TBH). :D
