E86 3.0Si Sound Generator Missing?

Just been under my dashboard to finally do the sound generator mod on my 3.0Si (I've only owned it for 3 years!) and was surprised and a bit gutted to find nothing but a hole where I expected the noise inlet pipe to be :|

Further investigation under the bonnet showed that I lack a sound generator. I have a resonator box of some sort after the filtered air inlet attaches to the throttle body, but there seems to be nowhere on that box to mount a pipe to the cockpit. I do however have a gaping hole in my firewall where that pipe is supposed to go.

Anyone ever heard of this before? I thought the sound generator was standard on the 3.0Si from what I've read? Off to eBay I go!

Sounds like just the pipe with the foam inserts is missing - It's probably been taken out by someone to remove a foam, and they've not put it back in place properly. If you don't know the "knack" the cabin end can be a bitch to get in properly and sealed.

Bloody hell, that was quick, cheers!

#9 is definitely missing, and I'm not sure about #6 (I'm assuming that's the diaphragm that amplifies the sound before it goes down the tube). It's raining now, but will have a proper look in the daylight tomorrow. That's incredibly helpful though, nice one!

We can be a helpful bunch, when the mood takes us lol.

Well, just been to have a look under the bonnet in the daylight, and it looks like some absolute weapon has removed the whole sound generator assembly. I have two bolt holes where I’m assuming it should mount. What a ballache :headbang:

Mike, please can you describe this 'knack'? I don't think I've ever managed to get it back in place properly.

Lol. I found the easiest way to do it was to pull the end ring off the pipe, for that to the body and then slide the pipe in.

Mike if the pipe is not perfectly in, would there be no sound at all????

Hi, I should think that if the pipe’s actually through the bulkhead you’re going to hear something? :?

Mike is long gone from this forum but as per the smartest bear in town’s reply above. It is part 6 that generates the sound, the pipe merely directs it into the passenger footwell area.
