E85 Water Leak

Been having a quick check for leaks in this fine weather. Found one in the boot, left hand side almost directly below the handle that moves the tray up and down.

Can see it leaking though about halfway along. From inside the only water i can find is the very bottom corner of the windows, is this a common issue? Hard to look elsewhere because of the tray itself
 
Have you cleared the roof drain tubes? If blocked they will fill up & overflow, either into to boot or into the passenger compartment. Even if your roof motor has been relocated to the boot you still need to keep the drains clear.
 
Yeah, just had a quick bash at that now without taking the wheel off. Running free on the passenger side, driver side was almost completely blocked
 
[ref]Steve169[/ref], how did you get at them without removing the wheel? its a job that I've put off for a bit as the roof motor was moved but I do need to do it soon.
 
I found them by just reaching under while lying down, once I found one the first time it was ok. Then just used some wire to push up through and kept checking by pouring water from the top till it ran clear. Water and gunk rushed out once i found the right spot driver side.

Will probably still have a better look when the car is jacked up, and look at getting the motor relocated by Dave :thumbsup:

Although......... If you've got the motor moved i reckon you could do it from the top. Either proper pipe cleaner or the stuff for hanging net curtains would do!
 
You can access the drains from underneath the car just in front of the rear wheels, look up and you will see the rubber one way valve plugged onto the drain, pull it off and use a rod to push up and cleqan the drain out. Probably best to leave the rubber valves off to ensure the drain stays clear. You can also access the drains with the rear wheels off and the lower arch inspection panel removed, peer in there and you will see the drain.

Thanks, I'll give that a go today. I might jack the car up so I get a bigger space between the wheel and the liner.

If you're going as far as jacking it up, may as well whip the wheel off and make life easier for yourself?
 
[ref]enuff_zed[/ref], agreed. Then I'll clean the wheel properly and then have to do the other 3 - LoL. So it goes on, to top it all the darn airbag light came on today. Diagnosed with code reader so it looks like the passenger seat is coming out as well :-(

They do have a habit of keeping you busy, these older motors :roll:
