E85 to e89 upgrade

So , I have a e85 3.0 auto , and a Range Rover vogue, I thought, buying the zed , I would just have a cheap fun car to take out on the occasional sunny day . How wrong I was ..... this thing is just hopeless when it comes to leaving it at home , I just can’t do it !!! So , now I have a Range Rover sitting there doing almost nothing ( poor thing ) my dilemma is this , do I sell the Range, and keep the e85 ? Or sell them both and get a 3.5 e 89 ? I’d like whoever has made the change up from e85 to e89 , to give me your thoughts on the change up , who . Having had both cars thinks it was a good move/ or not so good a move, i hear you lose some of the raw driving experience when you move up to the e89 what’s people’s thoughts please

I massively regret trading my e85 in for an e89. Planning a switch back already.

Both great looking cars greg81
I might have to drive a 3.5 to see for myself, hopefully hear more from the likes of John e89 , smartbear etc

Hi 2 dogs, it’s been 2 years almost to the day since I’ve had my 20i. I did have a 30i e89 in between selling my 3.0si and my present car but seeing as that only lasted me a month before expiring in an expensive crescendo of grinding cogs & gnashing teeth i won’t dwell on that one
I’ve never wanted to go back, and am really enjoying the e89-a bit more refinement along with an exciting drive makes it something i always look forward to driving.
You can’t fit as much in the boot as the e85 manages but we still manage a week away with a couple of cases (the roadster bags fit the space well)
My 4 pot lacks the great noise the 6 produces but the flip side is better economy & cheaper tax (£190 I think?)
The 2litre can also make more power than the 3.0si, so no drawback there.
As with the e85 it’s an advantage to fit a roof module to enable one touch opening of the roof

I drove down to the south of France & Monaco in my car, covering over 2.5k miles in a week with no aches & pains (M sport seats)

Hi srhutch
For some reason I’m being protective of the e 85 and don’t like the idea of driving it in bad weather as a daily. Got this as I found the Range Rover boring. And use it most days now weather permitting, yet I’m thinking, get an e89 , sell both cars and use e89 for all year , previously had 3.0 s type jags , used to compete in match fishing so got the Range for practical reason, I’ve since stopped competing and don’t really need it , it just sits there so , no don’t really need 2 cars mate

Thanks smartbear
I’m going to keep my eyes open for a 3.5 e89 local that I can have a drive of , be gutted to see the Range go , such a lovely car , but not one ounce of grin factor  wife has a mini we can use for anything that won’t go in an e89

If you can afford if just sell the RR and get the E89 whilst hanging onto the E85 for a while.

At least that was if you don't like the E89 then you haven't lost the E85.

Not the worst idea I’ve heard srhutch
Think I’ll drive one and try and make up my mind from there, who’s local guys ? Anyone got a 3.5 e89 in Wickford or local that I can come and have a sniff round ? Maybe cadge a lift in one for a few miles?

Give Stuartt a prod, he’s a helpful chap and lives near near Southend-I’d have obliged (before i moved from Chelmsford to Somerset) as even though mines a 20i it’s still got the same interior and road manners as the 35i :?

I went from the e85 3.0i to a e89 3.5i only 4 months ago. The engine in the 3.5i is ace, pulls like a train and the dct box changes gear lovely. It is more refined than the e85 and you do get the benefit of it looking like a coupe when the tops up and a nice roadster when it's down.
The only thing I do miss about the e85 was the way it drove, it felt more raw and had a little more feel at the front but I now just forget about that and just listen to the 3.5's exhaust sound track which is to die for. Well mine is because it has the cat back Miltek system on it :D

I swopped from an E85 to an E89 in July. They are as different as chalk and cheese. The E89 is really a GT. It doesn’t handle like the E85 but as others have said is so much more refined and comfortable. I have a 3.5is and definitely wouldn’t move back to an E85. The thing is though. We are all different and it really depends what your main priorities are. You are right to test drive an E89 because as much as I and others like it. It might not be the car for you.

I moved over from an 3.0 E85 to a 28i E89 18 months ago, as said they are as different as chalk and cheese, I love my E89 for the refinement and these days it does everything I want of a two seater sports car, As my old E85 still sits on my drive (now in my sons hands) I do get to drive it occasionally, and the sound of that 3.0 and the way it grips, still puts a smile on my face. So I would say drive one, see what you think :D

Thanks for all your feedback guys
Jollyjoiner , was the milteck already on ? If not , what sort of money is the upgrade if I can be so rude ?
I had eisenman put on my e85 and just KNOW I’m gonna miss that sound if nothing else :driving:

Hi Dave
I moved from an e85 3.0 to an 89 35i and absolutly love the car, the wife prefers it too (which is always a bonus). Saying that i would buy my 85 back in a heart beat as i do miss it.

I never thought i would change, but i was getting too precious of my 85 and always kept it clean and covered (no garage) which kind of defeats the object of owning the car as i loved to drive it.

As said above the 85 is a much more raw driving experience than the refined 89, but the 89 is effortless and a much more comfortable place to be, Im 6'3" and well covered and fit well in both cars but don't get the leg cramps in the 89 like i did in the 85.

Fuel economy is what it is, you don't have a zed to save the planet, on a long run you can achieve about 32mpg but thrash it around the lanes and you are at about 17 to 20mpg.
it is more of a GT car but the tank could do with holding a bit more imo. Saying that on a recent road trip with 6 ///M's and an Alpina it didn't lose pace and handled the corners respectfully feeling nimble but well planted at all times.

As Smartbear has mentioned i only live in Southend and would be happy to take you for a spin out so you can see what its like. Send me a PM with your number and we can set something up.

It was already on, I'm not 100% sure but I heard they was about 1k but what I do know is that they have stopped making them for the Z now :(
