Remove the ESP unit from under the dash, clean the old grease off the screw thread and re apply/ fefit. Adjust the locking ring till your happy with the feel. Becoming a common thing at the moment on the earlier models.

Ah ok, well in that case, hopefully he can answer you? All I know is that it's clear and not very much of it.
ECU Testing were the most helpful company I've dealt with in years, so maybe give them a call and ask?

Edit

I was still suffering a slight sticky point, I assume that was due to the heat

Moved it earlier today so it’s now travelled at least 30mm

Much better all round

This is the way forward!!!

What lube did you use on the UJ's and motor spindle?

Mines in bits so would be easy to do but copperslip doesn't feel like the right thing.

I was thinking maybe lithium grease? Or maybe moly grease?
Moly or Lithium are traditional UJ choices, but since the UJ's are SUPPOSED to be sealed for life you need something that penetrates. Recently I've used Wurth motorcycle chain lube, it's a penetrating wax based high performance lube that goes on wet then dries, reducing crud collection and doesn't wash off.

Fixed-

a combination of greasing the upper and lower UJ's and the steering rack (which was as dry as a very dry thing in a dry place) and there is no notchiness or sticking any more

Joycey I will one day get the EPS off for a look like Martin has done- I wasnt looking forward to drilling it out!!

Stuart

Hi Stuart

I have the same issue…tried the adjustment which worked for a year but it’s now back with a vengeance. Don’t suppose you have any pics of the offending parts. And exactly what you done to cure it, like did you take the eps off?
Sorry if this sounds odd, but I’m no mechanic but wiling to have a go if simple enough

Thanks in advance

Gary

Hi Gary

Did you get someone to do the adjustment for you?

It’s fairly simple not many tools needed but a bit of a faff- I found that you will probably still have adjustment open to you to solve it

Where you based?

Evening everybody, so been on the motorway today and noticed when on a long curve it seemed to stick. So when i got home I've read through how to turn the adjustment on the motor so I lossened the two torque bolts with a 8mm ratchet spanner worked great,
But looking towards front of car I have adjusted it towards the front of the car which has seemed to work but I have only moved it about 10mm and won't go any further. So I tried the other way which it traveled a fair way to another stop I would say at least 70 80mm but that tightened it up to the point I could hardly move the steering wheel so my 1st direction was correct. So put it back but again went for a decent run on the M1 still the same I also noticed near the adjustment and motor there was some oily deposits has anybody any idea on my next course of action please.
