E85 strong second hand prices?

Just stumbled across this 2003 E85 up to £6,300 with half an hour to go on Ebay. I'm pleasantly surprised as I previously thought I would struggle to get over £5,500 for mine if I was to sell and it has more toys than this one! :driving:

Modern day classics - our lovely zeds will be going up in price in a few years... Defo a car to keep.

Not so sure.. An awful lot of electronics in a Z4 that will be very costly to repair as they age.,...

Market value I suppose. 43k on the clock and fairly cheap to run. Still reckon winning bid is way too high, but if you're willing to pay..... 8)

Took our Z 3.0 Sport to local BMW dealer last Summer and one of their man men said I'd picked a good spec and timed our purchase very well. He said the trade were almost fighting over older, low mileage Coupe models / Z4M cars (when they move on to the trade if too old for them).

In his opinion all E85/86 3.0 and 3.2 will retain value very soon....... Only an opinion but nice to hear!

There are a lot of rubbish z4's out there, just out of interest I have looked at a couple on car dealer fronts and am amazed at the condition, bad paint jobs, stinking dirty interior one 2.5 even had different headlights, one black one and one chrome one from a 3.0 and they were asking good money for them.
If you have a clean z4 then hold out for the right price I'm sure you would get it.

he paid £400 to change a door membrane bloody hell ,membrane cost me £30 and done it myself that is a lot of money just to stick it on a door :o

Good to hear as looking to sell my concours condition 2003 2.5 SMG next year with half that mileage and fully loaded, as only doing fewer than 1K miles a year the last few years, it's just not worth tax/insurance/servicing costs.

I have a silver 2007 E85 with an N52 2.5 engine with only 14500 genuine miles on the clock. Is anyone prepared to place a value on it? It is not full of extras having no electric or heated seats, no phone or sat nav connections but IS a very clean car. Engine bay looks like new as does interior trim and boot area.

Offers made will determine a sale as quite prepared to keep it for long term appreciation otherwise.

Second hand BMWs of recent years have held their value better than the previous generations - eg the E60 5 series at 5 years old is worth about double what a 5 year old E39 was, regardless of inflation. Same for the E46/E36 3 series. I think it's because of all the toys, you get so much for your money now. But they will drop eventually as they get older, and I wouldn't bet money on the E85 appreciating in value any time soon, the Z3 certainly hasn't.

sounds fairly promising but will be suprised if they manage to match the residules of my last car (lotus elise) owned for two & a half years and 16k miles-i sold it for more than i paid for it! :driving:
i live in hope
regards

Smartbear, making a profit on the Lotus is why you are a Smartbear

I have to stop myself every time I see the price of RX8's on auto trader. Think it will be an 3 Sport, to replace the reliable & very chuckable old 323 Sport, one day.

Thats the reason it took me months and months to find my Z4, I was trying to find the most basic one I could as this goes back to the ethos of sports roadsters.
A simple none complicated two seater sports car.

Sat navs etc look really terrible once the car ages and become a negative thing, they make the interior seem really dated and naff looking. I'd rather have one without if I was keeping it as an investment, I think that will be the case in 15/20 years time, collectors will be looking for cars without dated electronics and these cars will hold their values better.

The presence of Nav will never be a negative. The older and more "old fashioned" the dash the more desirable it becomes. Think of inkey$ M Coupe for example. The interior is really old school and all the more desirable because of it. Or think of some of the classics of the 60's and 70's. The dated interiors are part of their charm because they transport you back to that time when you sit in them. Don't forget as well that the Nav is usually accompanied by the better sound system and is also often accompanied by intravee too (not in my case though). So even though the primary use of the screen may have been overtaken by technological advances it is still a useful thing to have and people can marvel at it like we do now at those old digital watches with red numbers that only came on when you pressed the button on the side of them!
