E85 Sport button not working

Hi everybody!
I bought my first Z4 last July and love the car, it's a 3l manual 2005 model.
However, the sport mode does not engage. The light on the button comes on briefly when you
turn the ignition on, and that's it. We have checked the wirings, all ok, current going thru, updated the software, the button itself in working order, nothing seems to work. I mean , this shouldn't be rocket science, but running out of ideas here, anyone had a similar problem?
The car is factory fitted with the sport mode, not a retro fit.
thanks Muddy

No....got another button, a second hand one, thinking Ive been extremely unlucky with them, but it didn't make any difference. The light comes on when the car is started but after that nothing. Checked the wiring, that's ok and it goes to the ECU . Beats me...

You have to push the button to switch on Sport mode, the light is illuminated whilst on. Push button off, light goes out

Have you plugged in a code reader. You won’t have an error code, but you will be able to read the status of sport mode “on / off” and whether it changes with the button press. To be fair, sport mode does very little in a manual. I could barely tell the difference in my coupe; but in an auto it makes all the difference because it changes completely how the gearbox behaves.

we did that and it could see the sport mode in "off" mode..I know it doesn't do much and I've been enjoying the car fine without it. It's just buggin the hell out of me..:)) it's a man made thing, should be possible to find out what's wrong with it!

Inset behind the instruments is a tiny camera with facial recognition technology. It checks whether you look competent enough to engage Sport mode.
Try getting someone else to sit there? :poke: :D :D :D

oh really? You have to push the button? :D
Yes, indeed you do and the reason I said that was in your original post you said "However, the sport mode does not engage. The light on the button comes on briefly when you turn the ignition on, and that's it." I wrongly assumed that you may have thought it automatically 'engages' when the ignition is turned on. :?

Sorry.............
Anyway, further research in NewTIS states that the signal from the switch goes to the DME which selects a different throttle position map. It is the DME that then forwards this signal to the EPS and Auto Gearbox.
So perhaps now you should be looking at any codes/issues with the DME.
