E85 roof closes perfectly ... requires to manual push to go down

hi guys .. new to the forum and looking for a step in the right direction with my roof issue.

my 2005 2.5 litre engine E85 roof releases the windows down and disengages the roof from its closed position when I press the open button on the dash.. the motor you can hear calling but requires a manual assistance to move 3/4 of the way then the motor will carry on opening on its own and fully close the roof on its own. Also the roof requires to be manually pushed to make the micro switch contact when fully open. I have tried the Bowden cable and it seems no not have any movement in it to pull it.

any ideas guys would be much of help and knowledge on how the Bowden cable works

A poster on another Z4 Forum reported the exact same problem regarding the little push to get it started. He simply lubed (oiled) the release points and the latches and this corrected this issue. I honestly don't know what he used to lube these contact points. Hope this works for you. I can't help you with your second issue (not latching when fully down) but, I know this to be another common issue with this convertible system.

Your roof motor is die-ing and hasnt the strength to pull the roof, the hardest part which is from the windscreen past the mid point. After that gravity is assisting it.

The cure for this is to relocate it out of the wet drain well where it currently sits and into the boot. Several members can do this for you for q small charge (1/10 of the BMW dealer costs).
