E85 radio-no sound- wrong amp??

quick question, I just picked up a super cheap and somewhat needy 2003 z4 2.5 and have the 'radio turns on, no sound' issue. The seller stated that he had replaced the amp, but now that I see it, the Lear sticker has an "e83' on it, which looks like it is for an X3. Is that why i get no sound from the stereo? wrong amp? Please weigh in!

Afaik, E83 amps should be ok, if compatible model (dsp, non-dsp) and coded. Just a week or two ago there a commerade forum member had the same issue, solved by changing to a compatible amp.

Way too long since I’ve been coding to remember but certainly some of the current comerade nerds will chime in. Meanwhile, try doing some forum search, most certainly this has been covered before.

Hopefully this should help answer the hardware compatibility questions. Facing the same issue however, it only occurs during cold winters. if i hold my window switches up while my rear defroster for the hardtop is turned on, i get my audio back.... so not sure if its the GM5 module or <60% battery health.

Regardless, my amp was covered in a pool of engine oil in the battery compartment, so i will be tackling this no audio issue after replacing my battery
