E85 Oil Use Help

Hi new to this. Recently bought a secondhand 2004 2.2 z4 SE, E85.

It's driving really well but notice if on long journeys it's using oil.

Can't see a leak anywhere but possibly there's an internal leak, also some dripping on exhaust. It's not leaking onto the ground and the engine bay seems clean.

Driving it around the city it doesn't seem to use oil nearly half as much.

Long motorway drives have it looking for 1 litre of oil after 400 miles or so.

Can anyone help?

If it's not leaking it means it's burning it, it's either engine wear or a blocked engine breather system (ccv)
Regards

Well there must be an external leak if some is dripping on the exhaust. (exactly where is it dripping on to the exhaust)
the under trays will most likely be stopping it hitting the ground.
common external leak spots include around the oil filter housing where it meets the engine block, the rocker cover is another

Presuming that your leak is internal, a more technical verification would be a compression test.

If you are handy with tools, pick up a cylinder compression gauge and run all 6 through a quick start cycle (remove your spark plug wires first...) to get an idea of what each cylinder is at compression wise.

If you are not, any good Indy or dealership can do so.

Another visual clue would be blue smoke. Before oil burns, it evaporates into blue smoke. Once it ignites it becomes black.

Not sure from your message whether or not you have oil dripping on the exhaust. You would I am sure notice that and the smell. If there isnt any oil then as other have said you must be burning it. What is the mileage on the car - engine wear is usually down to high mileage or boy racer driving.
