E85 n46 ground strap location

Hi All
I am having issues with intermittent starting. Solenoid clicks but no crank. Dashboard fully lit up. This happened today after the battery had been fully charged the previous day. Battery voltage 12.36 when not running.
I am wondering if it is the engine to chassis ground strap. Can anyone advise or has a picture of the location on the 2litre n46 engine please?
Thanks in advance.

Can’t answer for the N46z
, but the E86 N52 has the ground strap to the left of the engine block joining the chassis. It can be seen down the gap. Piece of metal strap about 8 inches long

Might be the starter but was trying the cheapest fix first :) Car has only 65000m so would expect the starter to last longer than this.
Has been going on for some time but is gradually getting worse.

Yup, cheapest first is best, but that's also a decent mileage on a starter. Don't forget, it's the number of starts, not the miles. If the car has been used for short commutes it could have quadruple the starts of a motorway tourer.

Well known for Starters to fail like yours has, you could try giving it a clout with a hammer and see if it shocks itself into life, if it does it wont last long before it fails again. Just ensure all connections on it are clean and tight. Mine failed like yours, came back to life but failed again after a couple of test starts. Replaced with an RTX unit from Carparts4less, been faultless since, and quite easy to change it but do disconnect the battery before you start removing it.

Check fitment using your Reg Number
