E85 N46 Catalytic converter needed

Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend a good place to find a second hand catalytic converter, or a pukka aftermarket one?

My E85 N46 has 130k miles on it, so I'm not too concerned about going second hand (all the breaker cars I see have significantly lower mileage than mine anyway), but I certainly don't want to put a cheap aftermarket cat on which starts throwing codes in no time.

It's been an expensive year keeping the Z on the road (throttle body, VANOS, drive shafts, valve cover seals, coolant leaks the lot), but this SHOULD be the final piece in the puzzle for fault-code-free driving for the foreseeable.

At the moment I'm at a complete loss finding a second hand part, and I have no idea about the aftermarket market.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Dom,
What symptoms are pointing towards a cat replacement?
Which Cat(s) do you think have failed? If its the main cat and not the pre-cats, I would almost certainly get a weld-in replacement purely based on the cost of the OE main cat. Unless you can find a good on from a breakers.
Has your car failed its emission test?

It would be helpful if you could tell us what codes the zed is throwing. It is most definitely not the cats. If the reoccurring code is P420 then it is a easy fix.

Just thrash it where possible, the N46 is notorious for throwing emissions codes on a regular basis if not driven enthusiastically. I have owned mine for 7 years now & always where possible take it up to at least 4000 revs through the gears (once warmed up) and very rarely see the code thrown. And also driving it this way keeps the engine silky smooth.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, tug
