E85 M- views please on suspension

coming from a gt3 i dont find the ride compromised and im not likely to be tracking it (have the motorbikes for that stuff) but i am keen to keep it as factory standard as poss to be honest
 
Sachs shocks aren't available anymore. The nearest is a Billstein B6 kit. The Sachs shocks are gas and they leak they aren't very reliable. Not just milage its age. The shocks on mine are the only thing with surface rust.

This is the reason the springs snap because they are taking the majority of the impact when the shocks are done.

Having had one when they were newer and now a 20 year old one with 80k I can def tell mine are done. Im going to replace with B6 shocks and keep the original springs for the same ride height. All my springs are new.

so what happens when you take the car to a bmw dealer and ask them to fit new suspension?
 
Simple answer is you want to avoid doing that!

Much better idea is to find a good BMW Indy. I've been using an ex-Sytner one for my cars since he opened for business in 2019.

If you ask on here someone may be able to recommend one in your area.
 
im well covered re indy as ive had bmw / alpina forever

im more curious about the suspension refresh options and what would happen if you asked a dealer to refresh suspension if the shocks are NLA
 
They wouldn't be able to supply for you. Stock was depleted quite a while ago and Sachs no longer makes them. As I say they aren't very good and if you get 50k out of them functionally you're lucky. Let alone 20 years. Even new they weren't great.
 
If helps - i wanted to keep to factory shocks with eibach springs for my Z4MC when looking to refresh the suspension on my 50k miles Z4MC last year. The rears were readily available from factory as per the drivers side front but the NSF was on back order. To my surprise BMW then did another run and both fronts bacame available so definitely worth a check with a dealer.
As regards the ride quality, much better than before. Tbh I’ve done tiny mileage since so unable to give a comprehensive review, but this route worked for me 👍

The rides not compromised the main issue is the spring rates and damper rates don't make any sense. It's like driving a car with 2 different roll centres :thumbsup:

Also pork nerd, which GT3 did you have?

can i ask how much you paid and do you get a 10% discount or more from your dealer for parts?

i think best is i try a few different set-ups and take it from there
