Hi all,

I have a urgent question...

I have found for sale 2 brandnew M steering wheels, one with m colored stitching and one with normal black stitching for a E85.

Now mine is a 06/2004 build and my interest is going to the black stitched. I contacted the seller because at the ad he says by the black stitched one that it will not fit E85 cars before 04/2015.

He confirmed me that it will not fit my car ??? I tought they were all the sam, I even see guys running them in there Z3's.

Can anyone give me some more advice if it is possible that I can get it fitted ?

They will fit without issue.

Thanks for the reply,

According to the seller :

No, not everything fits together it is different before 04/2015.

Me:

Can I use parts from my not M steer to make it fit ?

Seller:

The slip ring in the car is different, the plugs of a non M steering wheel doesnt fit any parts on an M steering wheel

I fitted an ///M steering wheel to my 2003 E85 with no problems (other than the fiddling about with getting the airbag removed!)

Black stitched one fitted fine on my E85 (09/2013).

Straight swap - just needed to buy and install the retrofit cable so the buttons worked.

According the seller the one with colerd stitching will fir without any problem but the one with blackk stiching would not fit on cars before 04/2015. So I'm wondering what is changed then ?
He says as I mentioned in my previous post that the slipring is difrent on that one so it will not fit my 06/2004 and that I can not use the part from my current non M steer to make it work. Both steerings cost +500 € so if I buy it and it will not fit hey is not going to take back as he told me in advance it will not fit. I find it also hard to believe so I was wondering that there are other folks out her who heard this before.
For the seller it is not in his advantage to tell me so if it is was not true, now he is not selling anything.

This does seem bizarre, the seller is clearly adamant in the ad it wont fit but I too think he's got this wrong.
I just looked at real oem and came at this from another angle. I checked the part number of the standard wheel on a 03, 05 and 07 plate car. Its the same part number right through the whole E85/6 production run. Its exactly the same on an 03i SE as an 08 Si SE. So if the standard wheel is the same and fits for all 5 years of production surely it must follow that the M Sport one will also fit all 03-08 cars.
