E85 Lots of errors

Good afternoon,

I am still trying to find the issue with my car. It starts but I have the error lights in the attached picture. Also attached are images of module errors, and below is a save of the MSV/DME errors.

This all started after I repaired the knock sensor on the engine. Prior to that there were no errors, apart from the knock sensor. When I did the repair I disconnected the battery and reconnecting the battery has produced all these errors.

Since the repair I have had the engine intake off to check for any issues in the cabling, as the knock sensor cables were damaged by rats. I also had to repair the starter solenoid trigger wire whilst I had the manifold off. I couldn't see any further damage, but there was one connector that I couldn't attach coming from the junction box.

This issue is really starting to annoy me, it seems like a bus issue but I don't know where, although all roads seem to point to the MSV/DME. I've checked voltages to the IVM/supply module mounted in front of the MSV/DME. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

I'm going to carry on checking things this afternoon, but even though I love this car I feel like burning it to the ground right now :D

Forgive me if I'm being obtuse, but if you have a cable that isn't attached then isn't that likely to be the problem?

It could be, but I can't see anything to attach it to, there is nothing obvious hanging around. Checking the drawings on WDS isn't much help as unless you know what you're looking for you can't search for it. It looks like a sensor cable, as the individual wires aren't that big of a gauge so I'm not sure how that could affect the whole system.

I didn't disconnect this plug when I removed the inlet manifold, but it could have come loose when I repaired the knock sensors by trying to be clever and not removing the inlet manifold.

I'm going to remove the inlet manifold again and have another look. I'm asking on here as my brain is fried and I'm looking for inspiration, I've been thinking about this problem for the last couple of weeks.

Which engine is it?
Hopefully someone can look at theirs and see where that wire goes.
 
It's an N52, I've got a 3.0si

Weird how this morning the throttle pedal is now no longer responsive, but I managed to move the car about the other day. It seems to me to be a power issue. I'm going to go through the fuses behind the glove box as well this afternoon

Could be a fuse. Very easy to arc something when you're rummaging about and pop the fuse. Always worth a check at least.
 
I would get as much information about that plug that's not connected as possible. BMW seem to have a habit of not using the same plugs again in the same environment so should be easy identify once we know what type of plug it's called.

Get some more better quality photos up on here so at least a Google image search can be done :thumbsup:

Could be a fuse. Very easy to arc something when you're rummaging about and pop the fuse. Always worth a check at least.

It could be but I disconnected the battery completely for this very reason, although the knock sensor cable was just resting on the engine before I started working on it, so it's possible. I have checked power where I think it should be but I'm just going through the fusebox now. Came in to check as I had nothing on one fuse but it was the SMG start signal and I don't have an SMG box
 
Getting closer to being a failed DME.
Are there any codes for any other systems? I do know that if one module on the k-bus fails it can cause false errors on other modules too.

I've got the manifold out again and there was a connector on the manifold, but you mentioning the CCV system brought a very dim light bulb on. My car has a supercharger and they did away with the oil separator and fitted a catch can. Looking at the CCV system on RealOEM it looks like there is a connector on the oil separator so it is most likely that.

Still no idea why the DME is giving me so many problems though. Now I've got the manifold out I'm going to check the cabling around the engine again.

I haven't scanned through all the modules yet. I put some in the original post. What modules should I be scanning, or do I just go through all the ones shown in INPA?

Is there a version of ISTA that works and shows all of the modules in one go?

It was remapped, and the catch can added, but otherwise I don't think it would need anything electrical. The supercharger was fitted by a previous owner back in 2010. I have done around 6k miles since I've had the car and it's been fine. It's only since I disconnected the battery to repair the knock sensor cables that the faults have all been thrown up.

Forgive my ineptitude, but thank you for the drawing. I should have looked at that drawing, I've spent hours looking at WDS

I can talk to the DME(and the car does start), Steering Angle Sensor, DSC module, EPS module, Fuel pump module and instrument cluster. Should I be able to talk to the Tire Pressure Monitoring module, because that doesn't want to play at all, no matter if my lead is in K or D Can mode

I may be wrong, but I think that is the module associated with the TPMS transmitters on the tyre valves, as used in later models. Your car should use the ABS sensors to measure and compare wheel rotation speeds to detect a tyre deflating. As such, the functionality is contained within the DSC unit. A caveat here is my very basic understanding of this system and based on my interpretation of the wiring diagrams.
