E85 Lockdown Buying Blues

Long time voyeur, first time poster etc etc. I am looking to buy my first Zed - ideally 3.0 Si auto with Oregon Red interior in 'anything but silver' (my wife's stipulation) up to 120k that looks like it's been well looked after - and the Forum and has thrown up some good options BUT...
...if I'm going to buy a car that is at least 12 years old and with that mileage, either I want to have had a good look at it or, ideally, have had an independent mechanic give it the once over for condition and any looming future costs that need to be considered. An MOT check can give you a feel for how it's been managed throughout its life on the road, but that's all.

But in lockdown, that can't happen, can it! Unless something comes on the market within, say, 25 miles from where I live, I don't feel I can justify a trip to check it out (and living in deepest North Norfolk means nothing comes up very near to me at the best of times). Whilst cars that come up on the Forum have a lot more buyer credibility and info than other sources, they are few (and, let's face it, you would still want to give them a once over).

I'm not desperate (couldn't drive it much anyway ATM for obvious reasons) and am not looking for any solutions (unless anyone has any)...just venting really :)

You're quite right, viewing and buying a car is certainly not essential travel at the moment, ergo, you shouldn't be doing it. though, it'll very much split opinion if you do, take a read through this thread...

https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=121387

however, if you do decide to go and view/buy a car while supposedly under lockdown conditions, please don't make it obvious on a public forum that that is what you're doing!

Hi and welcome.
I concur with what [ref]brillomaster[/ref] says, and if you've been reading the forum lately you'll notice an awful lot of people 'venting'. Mostly straight up in the air, but occasionally somewhat more directional.

Anyway, I'm assuming North Norfolk means a fair way from me in Attleborough, but there are quite a few members in the area. We started a little breakfast club last year and were full of plans for coastal runs etc this year until....................
But do keep in touch and I'm sure when things are back to 'normal' (whatever that may prove to look like) then we'd be glad to see you. Don't wait until you get a Z to join in.

Some garages are offering a delivery service and then you can agree terms (potentially) if its not as described / mechanically (or otherwise) as described/fit), so you can then test drive it (albeit you've bought it) at home (on an essential trip to Sainsburys) and if its markedly not as described, rely on the terms you've agreed with the garage but there are potentially abortive costs for the garage, so not many will offer this.

I wouldn't buy privately unless I trusted the seller - as in my case, it was someone I know through work. Or if you trust a forum member - but then you need to get over the delivery issue!

Most roads lead to having to wait until lockdown is lifted I think... :( (but Im alright, Jack).

Welcome to the forum. :)

Always worth venting those niggling thoughts. Better out than in as they say.

Will do. I'm up near Sheringham so 30 odd miles from Attleborough. Not many car dealers in this part of the world! Will keep an eye on the Forum for when the world begins again and you have a coast run. Meanwhile, I will just be window shopping

Look forward to meeting you.
In the meantime, don't buy too many windows :D

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Nothing wrong with a quick vent - I'm sure everyone is pretty frustrated about something at the moment!

I only bought my current Z4 in December and still haven't done 1,000 miles in it yet.

I’ve got a dealer coming to me on Friday with a 3.0 Z4. Apparently he is allowed to do so under lockdown conditions.

I will be test driving it alone wearing gloves and a face mask.
