E85 Key Fob

Hi All,

I’m back again. Picked up a 2007 2.0 E85 in blue yesterday.

The car only came with one key that doesn’t lock/unlock the car off the fob. I’ve tried putting it on a toothbrush charger and reprogramming but not had any joy. The fob looks like it‘s been cut open at some point.

If I buy a second hand working fob off another Z4, would I be able to reprogram it my self ( using the key into ignition, first click, pull out, hold lock button, etc method ) ? Obviously, the key itself won’t start the car.

Thanks,
James

If it's a different key surely it won't fit the locks to turn them? So how would you fit it into the ignition?
Think you need to look for a new key and get someone to cut and code it for you?

Not sure if you’ve missed the last bit of my post?
That was what I was referring to. If you put the key into the ignition with a different 'cut' how will you turn it to the first click?

In the re programming sequence, you use a key for the ignition part and programme a maximum of 3 other fobs according to BMW
Ah ok, so not putting 'that' key in. Fair enough.
