E85 had front alignment... now making strange noise - please help!

LATEST UPDATE!

So, wheel off. Checked EVRYTHING that you guys suggested and there is nothing obvious.

However as a last step, I swapped the front two wheels and bolts as someone suggested. The noise HAS immediately swapped too!

Again to confirm, it's still more of a squeaking/shushing sound than a clicking noise.

Open to any more suggestions :)

Something inside the tyre?
Or a badly manufactured tyre? Not always obvious if there's a manufacturing fault in the carcass.
Tbh, I think you'll need to get that tyre off and checked.

I had this bumping sound on a car a few years ago after a tyre change and it turned out to be a tyre with a lump on it. Yes, could there be something in the tyre sloshing around.

And swap the wheel back as you are running the good tyre the wrong way around now

Only if they are directional. If they simply say ‘outside face’ on the wall then they can fit either side

They can fit either side, but when running the tyre in the opposite direction it is used to, then it isn't the best for the tyre.

Ok accepted.
In this case it seems the tyre is almost new so hopefully not so crucial

Been to the tyre fitting/alignment branch at 8am this morning. They fitted a new tyre and the noise did NOT change - their words. Basically, they've now said that there is nothing more they can do.

So if the noise moves with the wheel and it's not the tyre... does that mean it's the rim? Could they have damaged it whilst doing their original tyre fitting and alignment I wonder?!

I suppose it could be slightly deformed, but you'd expect then that the tyre would damp that out?
Possibly a crack? Wonder if it makes a different resonance each time it passes the tarmac?

Being a cynic, is it definitely a new tyre on it?

Yep, saw them do it.

How much cost/hassle would it be to take it to another tyre place and get both front tyres swapped over. Same tyres. And get them to inspect the wheels at the same time.

Very long story short, as this has been a complete faff, particularly this morning...

FIXED!

Went to a third branch of the same company and apparently a load of bolts needing tightening on the split rim alloy!!! 108-style I think they are called? I have driven the car back home and the noise is completely gone. What a waste of nearly 4 weeks.

Also - hurrah!

So are you saying the initial fitters loosened them all?
Well at least we narrowed it down to the wheel itself and that helped fix it.

Good result, but who in their right mind losens those 108 bolts unless they are refurbing them ...

The tracking has highlighted this problem due to pull on the rim.. have you had your tracking re-done and im hoping those threads are alright after being allowed to vibrate for a period of time?

Initially on 17th June, the car went in for 4 new tyres and front alignment. The noise began as soon as I drove off their forecourt.

Between then and now when fixed (10th July) the car has probably only covered 20 gentle miles.
